From what I’ve read in forums on the topic from before the recent Cartographer’s Gift update changed Free For All from 8-player down to 6-player, I’m probably going to be alone in this, but does anyone else feel like they have to run around forever to find any action in the new FFA setup? FFA was my favorite part of Halo 5 before, simply because it was the fastest and therefore required it’s own unique strategy found nowhere else in the game. Sure it was frustrating dueling away a rival’s shields, only to be subject to a third-party double-kill out of nowhere, but that taught you to be smarter about where on the map you engaged (or sought out others’ engagements). It forced you to multitask and be more aware of your surroundings, listening for footsteps behind while dueling forward. Or trailing a sprinting target until you were in a lower-traffic area of the map favorable for a AR spraydown… a much different skill set than the rest of multiplayer, sure, but far from the “random win” accusations I see on pre-CG complaint boards. (This coming from someone who started at gold, but was mid-diamond and rising before the reset.)
Now it’s too one-dimensional… run around, 1v1 battle, run around, 1v1 battle, run around, run around, run around, 1v1 battle… I say bring back 8-player for at least for a few larger maps (Plaza, Empire, Fathom, Coliseum). Sure, if you are a pure thumb skill, always-get-your-reticle-on-head-faster-than-the-other-guy-without-thinking kind of guy (which admittedly, I am not), I can see how this is “better” in that stick skill is now nearly all you need to dominate FFA. But I’m I the only one who misses the spatial strategy aspect that’s been all but eliminated?
Uh no because people complained about 8 people being too much and now they want it back, jeez make up your mind people…

So it takes more skill to run up on 2 people fighting and kill both of them for easy kills than actually having to battle it out 1v1 every time? You still get the chance to use other weapons in their respective situations (just like in every other playlist), only now you don’t get as many easy clean-up kills.
I wonder if snickerdoodle and the other mods turn this kind of stuff into a drinking game?
Lone wolves was 6. 8 has little to no skill
I kinda agree with you, and I kinda don’t.
8 were too chaotic for my liking, and 6 feels kinda empty due to the huge ffa maps (thanks sprinting mechanic)
So… You prefer being gunned down right on spawn, over and over and over?
Well, I never voted for it.
I like 8 player better to be honest. It was more chaotic and yes, perhaps less skill than 6 player FFA, but it was fun.
BUT… now in every game I have played 6 players goes to 5 or 4 players pretty fast due to players dropping. I don’t recall people dropping as much in 8 player FFA before. I haven’t played a single game with 6 players after the first minute or two. With the map size on most, and only 4 or 5 players (and sometimes 3), its find the campers FFA now.
Not as fun as 8 players. Bring 8 players back, even if it is in a social playlist.

So true! I remember FFA being a painful experience. A lot of Spawn killing and mayhem. I haven’t jumped in it yet, but I’m hoping the 6 player FFA makes it more like a duel than a bloodbath.
8 player FFA is probably the worst game type I have ever played. It was totally infuriating and a lot of the skill of gun fights was removed since you were constantly getting shot from all sides and the spawning was just on a whole other level of terrible. Lost count of how many people spawned up right in front of me so I would get a free kill or when I would clear a room and turn my back to look at the door and it would spawn an enemy right behind me inside the same room.

hahahaha that sounds like a good idea.
I’ve played five games lf FFA6, it was more “skilled” but it wasn’t as much fun. What’s great about FFA8 is that you can win it with skill but also luck, you may grab a lucky double kill and suddenly be back in the running. This doesn’t happen AS MUCH in FFA6. I have always supported FFA8 and was disappointed when they said it’d drop to six.

I think 7 player would be better. 8 was too much but 6 is too little
