I feel like breakout was more enjoyable when we had to get the flag inside the ennemy’s base. It made the mode more defense focus, but now we have to rush towards the ennemy or else they’ll just take the flag to their base.
I can see both sides of the argument. The way it is forces people to get out and move around, and breakout was supposed to be fast paced. The downside is that it seems like people just want to ignore the flag entirely sometimes. It’s no fun getting shot in the back while carrying the flag.
The flag changes, along with the shotgun starts and radar, have made an unholy matrix of -Yoink- game design that has completely shut down any love I had for Breakout.
I prefer newer - bring the flag back to your own base - style.
Personally, I feel like it forces more aggression over camping or slow approach. If you don’t get up there and in your enemy’s face, they’ll just grab the flag and score. You can’t sit and wait for them to bring it to you, trying to score it past you.
But I don’t like Breakout anyway, so my opinion is pretty much worthless.

If I am correct, people complained about campy gameplay of Breakout during the beta. Flag was added to resolve that complaint, but it didn’t change the gameplay that much from my experience. The new version definitely changed way it’s played. If the purpose of flag in Breakout is to avoid players staying at their base, new version does its job and older one doesn’t do it enough.
I prefer it the new way of caping at your own base. People in breakout like to sit back and pulling an early flag forces them to push and try to stop the cap. What i like to do sometimes is grab the flag and toss it to our side of the base to make them push and hopefully we pick them off and they come to our side of the map. Now this also gives you the other option of going for the cap if they do not push which i think is more tactical than it was when you had to score at their base.,
I liked bringing it to the enemy base better. With new Breakout everyone is flag happy and they win every round by pushing the flag. Plus, during Breakout’s development, they literally said that they wanted to mix up gameplay by having an opposing objective.
