Breakout - What Happened?

Like many of you, I got Halo 5 at launch and dove headfirst into the new multiplayer gametypes. One of these, Breakout, became an early favorite. With its American Gladiator vibe and quick-fire rounds, it became addicting and was - for a couple of months - the gametype of choice for me and some friends.

Then the community got some of their maps put into the rotation. The maps that were once bright, open, and intricate were now dark, close-topped, cheap facsimiles of what shipped with the game. These new maps had no flavor to them, no spice, no charisma. We have received some good maps as a result of community efforts (pit remake, nicely done), but they’ve been few and far between; and these subpar maps seem to have washed the originals out of the rotation. Where did they go!?

Since the long string of boring, dank n’ dingy maps, I’ve found we rarely go for breakout anymore. We just kind of forgot about it as a viable option for fun games. Here’s hoping they can put that stadium arena-esque vibe back into it soon.

I disagree. I think the inclusion of the community maps has been a great positive. While both sets of maps are good (both sets have mediocre maps), the community maps are bigger (for the most part) and that adds more variety to the playlist.

And while the Pit remake looks nice, it is probably one of least favorite breakout maps. It’s way to cluttered.
