Unlike the other playlists, Breakout is a good indicator on team work, balancing kill death ratio, great focus or awareness, and decision making skills. It is like what if Halo mixed with Counter Strike in a sense that if you die, you have to wait for the round to end.
I understand that some of you guys will dislike it because it may feel like Call of Duty due to how some players may camp with shotguns in corners, the maps have many halls or open areas to get shot, and how there are grenades thrown at hallways. It is frustrating but you can counter this. Breakout requires alot of strategy and decision making. You will ask yourself, should I switch to my shotgun if I have spotted am enemy? Should we capture the flag and take it home or should we wipe the team out? Is it worth throwing a grenade in that hall way? What if the enemy doges the grenade and advantes towards me?
The fact that you have the option to either capture the flag or wipe out the enemy team really sets this playlist apart from the others. You need to be a good team player in terms of not being selfish and capturing the flag and being able to kill the other players really well. At first, I though Breakout was a joke and a clone to COD’s gameplay but it is actually different and distinguishes itself from the other games. In Search and Destroy from Call of Duty, it is easy to disarm the bomb compared to breakout where you have to capture the flag. The Magnum is harder to use compared to the Battle Rifle and DMR. The shotgun is complicated because you need to center the weapon at your opponent before firing. The shotgun is no op either because it has different hitboxes or damages at a certain range. It is not inconsistent like the shotgun in Combat Evolved (at least on the MCC version) especially how it has killer range and it is not an instant kill weapon like in Halo 3. I never though I would ever say this, but the shotgun takes skill in this game despite being a power weapon. You need to be patient, calm, and ready to fire. Be aggressive by using boost or sprint, you can die fast, but if you can predict your opponent’s body language or movement even if you use sprint or boost, you can pull of a reversal and surprise your opponent.
Now I may be bias because I have a Gold 3 but that does not matter. My kill death ratio is a but below one in Breakout. I am far from the best player. The fact is, Breakout definetely takes skill and may take more skill than any other social or ranked playlist. You don’t die too quick compared to swat and you don’t have to deal with with armor abilities as much when playing slayer. Breakout is pure strategy and tactics and I would argue that it may be the only playlist that involves map control like the classic Halo games such as knowing weapon spawns, map knowledge or layout, and tactics for each map.
If you don’t agree with me, I won’t be offended. Do you think Breakout takes skill? Which playlist in your opinion takes more skill?
I might be inclined to agree with you…if you were talking about old Breakout. New Breakout is a mess that isn’t based on any sort of skill whatsoever, being that shotguns are hilariously inconsistent, which boils each engagement down to a dice roll. The addition of radar and switching the flag caps also makes it ridiculously irritating, because it does nothing more than negate the need for communicating with your team. Also, that “camping issue” of the Old Breakout? At least then, the camping wasn’t supported with FREAKING RADAR AND SHOTGUNS around every corner.
I think communication is a lot easier on round based games with limited lives. It puts you in that one chance to get this right sensibility
I agree with Eleventh Sniper. How does a Shotgun + Radar lead to skill? Shotguns used to be a power weapon, now we spawn with it. Get the jump on the guy with the flag? Oh, let him “skillfully” pull out his shotgun and one tap you. All “Funkout” is good for anymore is Shotgun Commendations. When I played it, I wouldn’t even get nervous when I was outnumbered. The maps are good, but the gameplay is ridiculous. I wouldn’t mind the change so much if instead of Shotguns it were Storm Rifles. Plus, the “Flag Push” is changed to “Flag Pull”. I would like for the Old Breakout to come back, but it shouldn’t punish the players that actually do like it. Maybe two separate playlists? Or two different gametypes in one playlist?

Breakout 2.0 does not take as much as the old one but I still think it is more challenging than the other playlists still.

Except snipers.
Also can you guys still get games on breakout?
I can never get breakout games.

I like switching the flag cap. I hate that H4 bs no switch flag -Yoink-.

I invite you. You will find games with me.
I’d say Old Breakout was tougher than New Breakout. All we had were SMGs and I think Magnums and we had to take the flag into enemy territory to win. That was tough. It was so tough and I was so the opposite of that, I took a long break from Breakout because I couldn’t handle the power!
However, you do have a point, OP. Even though we have shotguns and radars now, there’s still a layer of strategy in the game, and there’s more benefit when you can communicate to your team. I remember one time, I got on Xbox Live with a friend and two of his friends and we went on Breakout. We endured a lot of exciting rounds (I was responsible for a few victories myself) and even pulled out a 6-match streak before getting stomped on the 7th. I would have never won 6 matches if it weren’t for a team that I was talking to in real time. I’d say Breakout takes some strategy and effective teamwork.
Nope. I’ve seen so many people 1 man army it. You are given a shotgun it’s not hard. I’ve done it as well. So not much team work there. Skill? I’m not denying it takes skill to play breakout but I don’t think it’s the most skilled requiring game regular slayer or arena holds that for me because you have to worry about map rotation with positioning while break out it’s just positioning (plus ar start
It really isn’t or else it’d be a competitive option for people and it wouldn’t have gotten kicked out of the pro scene.
its main issues (note I’ll be using the original version cuz the newer version IS a JOKE!) have to do with short ttk which more or less lets you get away with getting the first shot, with shields like slayer you can still counter other players if you’re good enough. There’s then the issue of automatics getting their way with you due to the headshot multiplier when you have no shields. Map movement isn’t encouraged and is very limited in reality to where you wait out the first mistake on the other team before pushing and it’s more of a numbers game with it being an elimination mode. It’s also not as team oriented if you ask me as one player can single handedly dominate more often than he could in a slayer match.
i also take issue with when you say the other playlists lack team work , decision making skills, and awareness cuz that’s flat out wrong… watching the HCS will show you that.
I think Breakout, with this new layout is one of the most intenses modes in Halo 5. We can debate the shotgun, but one of the great things it adds is action. You need to make a push and fast. Something the old brakout lacked, in my opinion.
