They changed everything good about it
I enjoy it.

I think they made it more fast paced, because the pistol with extended clip allows you to take on more enemies at once, and the shotgun makes you get up close and tactical.I always wanted full shields in breakout and the radar combats people that wanna run around with a shotgun, making you use it in certain situations and not all the time. Also the maps seem to help with the tactical advantages and the only map I have a problem with is “knell” and I would like it if the saw was turned into a DMR or something less dangerous.

I also like it, i feel like it makes it more fast paced with the shotgun. Only thing I’d remove is the motion tracker, it’s more fun not knowing where the enemies are.

The original breakout is garbage, but give me a break. The change to the increased magazine is a minor improvement at best and, frankly, should just be default for the Magnum anyway. You have to fire, minimum, 66% more shots to kill players in these new settings. You can take on more enemies at once? No. This is factually inaccurate. Longer kill-times INHERENTLY reduce the ability of an individual player to rely on smart positioning and shooting skill to take on superior numbers. Why? Because the difference between the minimum number of shots the individual needs to hit versus the shots the larger group needs to hit gets larger. You need to hit a minimum 5 shots per enemy player (one being a head shot), while they only need to hit 5 between them to kill you. Even if they can’t manage the perfect, they only need to hit 7 body shots, versus the 10 you would need to hit for a perfect kill on two players or 15 for three. And that’s before you account for the reduced time frame required for more players to fire an equivalent number of shots. So, that’s 9 shots versus 3 (difference of 6) and 15 shots versus 5 (difference of 10) between original breakout and the refresh, assuming a 3v1 scenario. Long kill-times just make team-shot more effective and therefore more essential. This is why Arena Breakout was horrendous and is why this change is stupid.
And, so, in order to mitigate this problem, they introduced motion sensor and a shotgun. Which introduces two basic “tactics.” Holding forward/thrust-sliding into people, and crouching around corners, staring at your motion sensor. And, while we’re on the topic of “tactics” and “taking on more enemies at once,” motion sensor inherently nerfs the ability of smart players to flank, without holding the crouch button the entire time. Brilliant. We have yet another Breakout variant in which being outnumbered against even half competent players means you almost certainly lost the round.

Interesting points, but I totally disagree totally re being outnumbered vs competent players comments. I think it makes it far better for any players that are decent, especially if you are used to going in with randoms on your team who suck.
I found people camped more in the old gametype because all they needed to do was pick people off from distance and almost instant death. It made it easy for one or two players just to hold back and cover a hell of a lot of the map- you break cover and it can be game over. Dull dull dull.
Here, in the new version, decent players have much more of a chance to engage with more than one player and come out on top if they are good enough.
Starting with shotguns and extended mag pistols makes it much better paced too and I’ve found that camping/ dying or boredom happens far less. As for the motion sensor- I wouldn’t mind if they got rid of it to be fair, but you can still flank and do all you need to do regardless.
TLDR the new version is a huge improvement on the old version imo
Yeah right, its so much better now.
I didn’t like it when I played it, but I didn’t really like original Breakout so I guess it’s not for me anyways. Quick kill times take skill out of the game, not add it bac, this is a good change IMO, but shotgun starts and the introduction of power weapons like the SAW make for a generally frustrating experience IMO. The weapons on the old versions of the maps were picked to be generally more easily countered. These new weapons, and the ability to hold four grenades have made the experience frustrating. Radar is always good IMO, but shotty starts are a mystery to me. I would have much preferred the setting we have now with SMG instead of Shotgun and a change back to more “skill” based power weapons.
i dunno man, i kinda like it better now, actually playing this mode. Never was a fan of no shields (its a reason why i dont play swat a lot/suck at it)
I find more people camping with shotguns now lol. I like it better than the original though.
Get rid of radar and it wil be fine
Add shields, radar and a shotgun to an elimination game mode.
Sometimes I just really can’t decide whether 343 really is this incompetent orvifvtheyre trolling.

Long kill times do not require more skill. They make team shot more effective and individual skill less impactful. I really wish this misconception with Halo would go away. Halo CE has the highest shooting skill gap of the series, but the fastest kill times. Halo 4 had ridiculously long kill times at launch and it was incredibly easy to hit your shots. Fast kill times were what made comebacks against superior numbers even viable in Breakout (it would be more viable if everyone weapon in Halo 5 DIDN’T have ridiculous bullet magnetism, but that’s a different issue). The shotgun was added because of this fact. You are not going to challenge 2-3 players who have thumbs with a 5sk Magnum. It just isn’t going to happen. So, now you can camp with a shotgun instead or hope rushing them works out with motion sensor enabled.
Can you ruin something that wasn’t very good to begin.with?
I personally loved the old breakout, not as big of a fan of the new one. Just so many changes and I find the shotgun to be inconsistent. At least with the SMG you had to aim a bit, I’ve had times where I am for the head with the shotgun and don’t kill them, but they do the same and kill me, both at full shields/health… very annoying.
If they took away motion tracker then the pace would be acceptable. We dont need a search and destroy pseudo-slayer…

Long kill times require more dexterity and do not allow for a “seen-first, shot-first” playstyle that doesn’t rely more on aiming ability but on who saw who first. You keep bringing up 2v1s and 3v1s. While true, you do not have as great a chance to come back, that it kind of the point of a 2v1. The two people should have the advantage. With your reasoning, would it not be beneficial to change Breakout to SWAT settings? That way the single player has the greatest chance to come back, right? But that’s not the purpose of the gametype. It is about teamwork and communication, not the ability for a single person to comeback because their team failed. And it is still easier than ever the way that it is now for the single person to make a 2v1 comeback if they move and aim correctly. The increased magazine Magnum sees to that.

The only thing that wasn’t improved is the fact that you have a shotgun. That needs to go.
