It’s such a good game mode. I think the fact it looks so much different and was like an eSports futuristic arena vibe made it so much cooler. Would love to see it come back.
Attrition would fit very well on Breakout maps, but the original single life, one flag gametype would also be very much appreciated. There’s just something so exciting about it.
Honestly just hope they bring back that map aesthetic. Even a single map in that style would be great. Original Onslaught or Amplified but with that grid style would be awesome. I know it wasn’t as popular as main gametypes, but I’d play it so much. Just a shame you can’t get consistent games of it on Halo 5.
Breakout has been one of my favorite gametypes of the series for all the reasons you described. The nap aesthetic was… okay. Cool for a moment, but lost it’s spark overtime. Tho I can imagine a sick evolution of it with a more ‘live audiance’ feel to it.
If a breakout event were to cycle in, I’d be stoked.
Imagine it’s a lot of work, if people aren’t going to play it though. I really enjoyed Attrition but it definitely didn’t have the same level of charm. Even the man canon launching players into the arena was such a great touch.
Ah man I just want to play it so much. Shame it’s dead on H5. You need to search for about 20 minutes multiple times with expanded just to have a shot at playing a 4v4 ending up with wildly imbalanced skill levels. I played ten games of it before Infinite came out and it took forever just to get them done. I know a lot of people don’t like the changes either.
Thing is, to me, all the flash is unnecessary anyway. What made that gametype work was the Attrition and CTF elements. You could put that on any map with any weapons and that dynamic of one-life one-flag is fresh. The only downside is sitting out after elimination, which is never fun.
That’s one of my favourite parts ha, I like watching the team sometimes carry on the game. Knowing people are watching you is also some crazy pressure when you’re last man alive.
For me the setting was a lot of the atmosphere, I just really want that style of map back even if it is a one off 4v4 map.
I generally thought the game was more fun at the end of life after all the changes, however the waning population meant playlist options were poor.
Particularly the changes to Breakout I wasn’t a huge fan of. I like Elimination more than most people did, however not a fan of the map aesthetic changing to not be in the arena.
The ranked modes are generally pretty good, I like Team Arena. Was massively lacking in social options though.
I doubt it would come back as an Esport unless they tuned the hell out of it. I remember there was a lot of pushback from pro teams about having to play it in tournaments. A team was even disqualified because they intentionally suicided as a protest to having to play the mode.
Most of the building blocks to produce a Breakout style game mode seem to be in the game. With a few additional abilities, the addition of Forge mode, and some tweaks, Breakout could fit well into the Halo Infinite mix as a special game mode.
I will forever die on the hill that Breakout should have been a bomb plant/defuse mode and not a CTF mode. It came so close to being the Halo/CS mode I’ve always dreamed of!
Breakouts first map refresh. Loss of a few S tier maps and replaced them with C and D tier maps.
Warzone Assaults removal caused a significant hit to Warzones popularity (though it still stayed pretty popular for a long time tbf)
Breakouts weapon refresh. (Who tf wanted to start with shotties?) Basically made 2+v1’s nearly impossible.
Warzones boss refresh. Players literally stopped going for major bosses because their health could always regen to full if you didn’t finish the kill. Randomized minor bosses made it a lot harder for solo players to contribute boss points to the team.
Never was a fan of breakout. I thought it was quite boring… But I don’t like any objective stuff at all really since the majority just slay and ignore the objective. Breakout… Where it’s one flag and you get blasted with a shotgun from some one camping a corner then you just have to sit and spectate and twiddle your thumbs for the round to end… I will stick to my FFA and slayer still games.
