Breakout just provided me with the most fun I’ve had in Halo in years, and a beta experience just provided me with one of my most memorable gaming experiences ever.
Breakout is a blast, it’s all I’ve touched since the beta update introduced it, and I’m loving the highly competitive nature of it. Today I was playing my first super evenly matched game, they won Round 1, we won Round 2, they won Round 3…Round 4 comes up and my team instantly goes down 3-1, so I’m left to lone wolf it on these 3 fools. I manage to get a double kill on the first 2…BR bursts on one and then a melee on the other, and am able to recharge my health until I find the 3rd, whom I take down in a BR vs Magnum battle (I’ll let you have one guess which won)
Rounds 5-8 are alternated with wins and then we get to the final round: 9.
We get first kill almost immediately, dunno if it was a long grenade or a spawnglitch, but I was feeling good about it. Then someone on Blue got a double kill and then another teammate falls and I find myself down 3-1 again. No way I can do it again, I thought. My luck had ran out.
I manage to get the drop on Opponent 1, cap him with a magnum barrage…I think I see a blue streak out of the corner of my eye, so I hit the sprint button towards it…turn a corner and BOOM Spartan Charge for kill 2…1 on 1 duel…
I get shot in my back twice, I boost left into a caddy corner and start circling around to where I think he’ll be looking for me…all of a sudden he’s right in front of me, looking the opposite way.
Assassination. Game over. Victory.
My hands were shaking, I just patted myself on the back in a -Yoinking!- Halo forum, and I don’t even care. That was an absolute thrill, and something I haven’t experienced in Halo in close to a decade.
Long live Breakout.
