Breakout 2.0 sucks for one reason

I do not care about the horrid shotgun starts, I do not care about full shields, I used to not care about getting SR2s on my team, but having to capture the flag on your side is the stupidest thing i’ve ever seen

I only just go time to play the new breakout, and I can definitely say, i hate how you have to capture the flag at your side, there is no pushing involved! It does not matter if you out slay them, they capture the flag before you can even stop them! AND the fact it’s a ranked playlists and i’m still getting people under SR50 on my team or they quit

Edit: Third time in a row where i’ve a SR4 or under when not in a firetram, ITS A RANKED PLAYLIST, STOP PUTTING ME WITH PEOPLE WHO JUST RUN IN THERE AND CANT EVEN GET A KILL

Agree

The new way of capturing flag is certainly better than previous one, if the purpose of flag is preventing campy gameplay. Previous version still allowed players to stay in their base, because their enemy team would eventually bring flag to their base. Now, it’s the opposite. If players are trying to win, they must push it and battle around flag so no one gets it or escorting teammate bringing flag back. This is a massive improvement.

The problem that people are talking about is finding and killing flag carrier is way to difficult. I agree on that, but the problem comes from the location of flag. Crossfire 2.0 plays very well and it’s no difficult to kill flag carrier. They need to change the location of flag on Altitude 2.0 and Trident 2.0. I see no problem from the system itself.

I played Breakout 2.0 for the first time yesterday and it’s honestly my least favorite gametype by far now. I played maybe three matches and what it seemed like to me is that everything they added was the wrong decision (ei. shotgun, radar, shields). There was nothing changed that I would consider an improvement in the slightest. So bad. I’ll never touch it again.

I think it’s great fun! Really love what they’ve done with it.

OP, my suggestion to you would be to get good at it. If they’re taking the flag easily then that’s your team’s fault for not stopping them or getting there first.

And as always, get a fireteam. There’s no point in complaining about bad teammates when you leave it all to chance.

Hold on, HOLD ON. Let me find an old post of mine.

HEREWEGO

I can now safely say it sucks. The combination of shotguns, radar, AND the new flag capture mechanics make it so once you or an enemy grab the flag, you just move back a bit and the camping teammates will take care of the rest for you.Not only that, but the maps themselves have become a wide-open disaster with almost no cover to them whatsoever, other than the walls that provide the main pathways (which are almost guaranteed to be littered with shotguns.). The few items of cover they do have in the maps are surrounded by waist-high nonsense that only serve to get you stuck when you’re trying to back up or sidestep to cover.Shotguns do nothing but make the hallways a sudden-death circus. They promote no means of skillful play, as the only strategy to them is “Wait for enemy to get close, pull trigger.”. With an SMG, you can use it to suppress and descope an enemy at range without having to aim with the Magnum; the penalty for doing so being a lack of capability to actually damage the enemy, only limit their aim.A CQB battle with SMGs is concluded when the player who gets the most consistent shots lands more bullets, or move in close and executes a well-timed melee attack. Now? You pull the trigger once, and they’re dead. Hell, it’s even become all too common for both parties to die in a shotgun battle, which only leads to frustration. A trade-off in a Magnum or BR battle indicates that you and your opponent are equally-skilled. A trade-off in a shotgun battle just means you both pulled the trigger at roughly the same time. It’s not fun, and it’s not competetive.Starting with weapons that cause instant death isn’t even a fair battle when dealing with corners. When you walk into a room, you generall have two corners that enemies could be hiding behind. You’re taking a risk simply by entering the room. With SMGs, if you walk into a room and you checked the wrong corner, they begin firing at you, giving you a split-second to react; will you boost out of the room? Or turn and fight? Anymore, if you check the wrong corner, you just get blasted with no time to react.Radar means there is no need for comunication whatsoever. This could also be argued in other Arena modes, however, the size of Breakout maps is VERY small compared to Arena maps, meaning your radar covers most of the locations your enemies could be. Besides, Breakout is supposed to be the ultra-competitive mode of Halo 5, where you either work with your team or die. Without radar, you must rely on your eyes or your team. No information is just given away. Except that, of course, now it is. You can see exactly where the enemy is from almost across the map.You can approach a room and know for sure there is an enemy in there. You know he’s waiting for you to enter, eyes glued to radar, finger ready to pull his shotgun’s trigger. You expect him to be camping. You wanna get the drop on him by not appearing on his radarn so you crouch…and move remarkably slower. By the time you’re done crouching the whole way to the enemy from outside his radar, the rest of their team has already moved up and grabbed the flag. You gotta make it quick, so you work to kill the camper and move on. Uh oh, too late, they walked the flag back to their base because they don’t even need to walk the flag through hostile territory. They can grab the flag, and walk back through where their team is, which is more universally known as “the area where they’re perfectly safe.”. The entire game now boils down to running through the only three hallways (lest you get caught in the open), rushing the flag with shotguns (where the winner is chosen via dice roll, more or less), and simply stolling the flag back to base. You can’t make a counter-push, because that involves moving quickly across to THEIR side of the map. By implementing radar, moving quickly is inherently punished as opposed to waiting or moving slowly. The change of making the flag scorable at your base puts a huge emphasis on moving with speed; the inclusion of radar penalizes speed. You can see how that doesn’t add up.There were paragraph breaks in the original…

It is also impossible to find a game without people leaving, because 343 barely punishes people for leaving games

Agreed. I used to love Breakout but now haven’t touched it since the refresh.

Fun fact, there is an option for “quit” when you press menu button.

i accident left out something, re-read it

It’s better now. How many times in the old breakout did you die, then go make a sandwich while the remaining people camped in corners until the timer ran out? You have to push the flag every round. Camping=loss. It isn’t perfect, but it’s fast and more fun than the old one.

Breakout is nothing BUT campers since they added SHOTGUN AND RADAR STARTS.

There are still some, but there are some in every playlist. It’s not as bad as before for the reasons Justima said. If you camp on your side of the map, you lose.

Here is the new Breakout in a nutshell:

Rush in to center/flag. Find enemy and shoot at with shotgun. Dice roll decides who dies because the shotgun is hilariously inconsistent. Winner camps center or grabs flag. GAME OVER, because the other team has no chance of catching up to the flag carrier without showing up on radar and getting eaten alive.

I would say that is more player’s fault on not focusing on the main objective.

Focusing on main objective? Is securing the map not a part of the game? Is Breakout meant to be nothing but all flag, all the time?

The original idea for Breakout was to have the main objective be to eliminate the other team, with the flag to end the game if someone is hiding. Breakout is a game of controlling the map. Map control will give you the better weapons and better vantage points. Now are you telling me that Breakout is supposed to be a dumb CTF mode with no other variables to keep in mind? Believe it or not, if the entire team “focused on the main objective” by all rushing the flag, they’d likely get killed by everyone else who has the weapons on the left and right sides of the map. The problem is the shotgun being a -Yoink- weapon that doesn’t depend on anything other than a loose grasp of the concept of “shooting first”. I label it as so, considering it’s wayyyyyy too easy to get a trade-off, or for shots to deal minimal damage for almost no reason (much like splattering).

The shotgun makes the winners of any CQB engagement a dice roll. A boring, frustrating dice roll that decides the rest of the round, because once you have center field, you have the flag in the bag, considering you don’t even need to make a push anymore.

It became the main objective now. Although, I had many matches where people didn’t care about flag and decided to search for players.

Map control still exists in this Breakout. Better location, the better view on the flag and better weapon they get.

Yeah. I know how map control works.

But please, continue to tell me how superior the new Breakout is, where you have to move fast to catch the enemy flag carrier before he scores, even though they added radar, so quick movement is inherently punished.

Some matches are like that for sure. Some maps make that possible, and I agree the shotgun is horribly inconsistent. Other maps if you try that you will get destroyed from range with a pistol and the flag won’t matter. Breakout isn’t perfect, but the main thing i like is full shields so I can actually fight it out in open space.
