Breaking out of an Assassination?

I’m not sure if this is a glitch, or lag, or intentional.

My friend and I both had this happen, it was in the same game so a lag spike might be responsible.

I chased down an opponent and started the assassination and no one else was nearby, suddenly the animation stopped and he was free of the assassination and he pummeled me to death. In my case it was a mid-air assassination and my opponent landed on an object before it completed and I was over a walkway that was a little lower. It seemed like as soon as his feet hit the object he was freed up. It was the mid-air spiking (or double axe-handle to the back of the head)(As seen at ~34 seconds into this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCiGiVqgqTA ) assasination.

I am not sure of the specifics for my friends broken assassination.

Something like that happened to me too, but it was on the ground though, so when he broke out, I immediately tried to perform it (the assassination) again and it worked.

I’ve been on the receiving end of this where I break out of a random assassination, but I can’t recall having one broken before.

I WOULD like to know how it happened though… it’d be nice to break out of them reliably… cheap as hell, but nice

I want to see WWE moves like Suplex and Piledriver.

I would like an option in a menu that lets you decide between a beat down and an assassination. I know you just tap for a beat down but I think the lag makes the system believe I was going for an assassination. Very annoying.

Happened to me on the ground and I kept trying to hit him and it kept just going and breaking the assassination. I think it’s to do with the map elevation.

From the time the game came out, I must counted 7 breaks. What i mean is, from nov. 6 to now, i’ve broken out of 7 assassinations. Good in one way, but it was bad on the other, b/c of the lags.

It happens to me in hard-wired system link games, so I can’t attribute it to lag.

I’ve had it happen at least five to ten times, probably more, with the most recent being yesterday.

Happens to me sometimes. I’d end up having to double pummel this guy before he turns around. Only time I break out is when someone actually saves me.

It seems to happen when the assassination takes place on a slope or when a object is in the way that obstructs the assassination animation.
Once a Spartan is forcefully moved/stuck due to the obstruction the assassination breaks.

Sorry its a bit hard to explain but this is what appears to happen according to my experience and other posts mentioning this on waypoint.

There might be other instances where it also happens that I have not come across yet.

I had something even worse happen to me. I backsmacked another guy, and instead he was the one who killed me in an animation. Proof is on my file share. Probably some weird lag/glitch.

Sounds like something you should send to Halo fails.

lost a game of regicide on the last point because I assassinated instead of beat down. very annoying

The breakout happens due to sloped geometry. Sometimes it can happen when you start sprinting just as someone gets a melee lunge on you from max distance. Slight lag in these instances will cause it to happen.

I have been on the giving end a few times and had it happen, and twice on the receiving end.

Basically if you were to clip into the geometry with an assassination it cancels it. Weak stuff I know :confused:

Had this happen to me only on the victim’s end. I remember thinking the guy who was going to assassinate me got cheated, especially since we killed him for it.

I think it’s from lag or on a weird angle. Ive got out of a few assassinations in Reach by showstoping myself god knows how. But hey who knows…

I think assassinations would be more interesting with a quicktime chance at breaking away. You should be able to turn them off entirely for competitive play. I never intentionally assassinate but a third of the time a quick beat down leads to animation and against a good team that’s an annoying and easy death.

happens all the time. it makes me not want to try to assassinate even more. I already lose too many kills due to the time it takes to pull it off. And no I don’t want to use stealth.
