This is a really good video by Bravo explaining the Halo 4 Control layouts;
Watch it, seriously.
Cheers for that, very informative.
Recon or Bumper Jumper for me, I’m torn. And I would like them to switch RB and X on the Recon layout too, in fact that’s the only reason I was considering Default over Recon.
Why? You have to tap x to toggle sprint, and hold RB for AA.
Boxer! I didn’t know that sprint was toggled, that made up my mind.

You’re looking at the wrong button. RB on the Recon layout reloads, X sprints. I want RB to sprint and X to reload, as X is my favourite button for reloading (lol), it’s the most comfortable for me.
Ima try to learn to use fishstick

To me, the point of Recon is having RB be Reload. That’s all I care about, because it’s supposed to be like Halo 3’s controls.
X is toggle sprint, which shouldn’t be too uncomfortable.
I’m gonna use Recon, but I’ll definitely try Fishstick. I’ve used LT to zoom in Gears of War, and I’m kinda curious to see how it’ll work in Halo.
I want to try fishsticks, but I’ll most likely stick with default.

True, true, I can’t dispute that it is meant to represent Halo 3 setup at it’s core. This is why I want custom button mapping, because as Bravo pointed out, there are flaws with all the control schemes, and the juggling of sprint and AAs has caused that.
I like Default, but they’ve put sprint on LS and crouch on B, I wouldn’t mind the other way round, but like that I can’t crouch jump.
On BJ, the biggest problem is AA on X, AAs screwed BJ for me in Reach too, I can’t Jetpack and shoot.
And I’ve said my reason for Recon.
But you’ve reminded me that RB reload is a staple for Recon, so they probably shouldn’t mess with it.
Am I the only player that uses Green Thumb? I have to have melee on the control stick.
I want a Classic Layout damn you!!!
I can’t play Halo like anything else, Classic is what I’m accustomed to!!
I’ve always been a bumper jumper, and will be using it in halo 4, but I’m starting to consider fishsticks. For those that don’t know, in reach and other past halo games, if you hold the zoom button instead of toggling it, you would unzoom once you let it go. So, the fishsticks layout is very useful, especially since you no longer get kicked out of zoom when shot.
And no, I don’t play CoD. I very much dislike those games.

I always hear that the problem with custom button mapping is people finding button glitches like BXR, etc…
And I wouldn’t know anything of the hardships of Bumper Jumper, jumping from a bumper seems plain WEIRD.
I always play Recon, but I notice how DIFFICULT it is to aim and melee at the same time. When I’m a bomb carrier in Grifball (which I’m a beast at xP), it shows.
Fishsticks is really good for CoD players.
They should change that to Default if anything, THEN put in CLASSIC Controls.
I might try Fishstick(love the CoD reference) since I know it is really the only appropriate layout for Halo 4 right now

Yeah I thought BJ would be weird at first too, but on Halo 3 it was so obviously better than all the other setups if you got into it.
I could jump AND aim properly, melee was on RB so melee and headshot follow-ups with BR were really easy, and the jumping and aiming came in handy when strafing and hopping to be a hard target while still hitting the enemy with shots.
In Reach, X was for AAs, so BJ meant no jetpack and a really awkward armour lock, fortunately the latter is gone from the game.
There are controllers that allow custom-button mapping I think, but they’re expensive, so I don’t think BXR should be too much of a problem here. I’m sure 343i have or could iron it out.

No problem
If they switched RB and X on Recon, I would be content with everything in Halo 4 XD
Bumper Jumper for me! Played it at Eurogamer. It felt gooood.
I agree that Recon needs X and RB switched. It would be absolutely perfect. And yeah, it wouldn’t be like Halo 3 then, but I’ve always considered Recon more of a “classic” control scheme rather than strictly Halo 3.
