I just finished the campaign about 20 minutes ago (don’t worry, I won’t spoil anything) and I can honestly say 100% that is the most amazing gaming experience I’ve ever had. The story was incredible, the environments were phenomenal, gameplay was solid and sooo smooth, the voice acting and dialogue was on point and lastly the overall experience was just fantastic. I won’t lie and say I didn’t have my doubts about Halo 5 but they blew all of my expectations completely out of the water. Seriously, great job 343!!!
EDIT: There are spoilers in the comments, just a fair warning.
I know! Those last 2 missions were insane. I was just saying in another thread how i thought Vale was one of the coolest characters in the game. At the end, I totally lost my -Yoink- when
Cortana was taunting Vale, and she was like “that’s Spartan vale to you. And if you know me so well, Your gonna have to try harder than that”. So bad -Yoink-! What was your favorite moment/character?
I also like that they actually introduced a new Monitor in game (although she kinda came out of nowhere). And the fact that Cortana is evil now is good twist. Can’t wait for Halo 6

Honestly, what they did with Cortana was just mind-blowing. They could not have handled her character any better, and making her the de-facto villain was genius. I can’t honestly say my favorite moment. Might be the ending with Chief and Locke walking together down the pelican ramp. That was just, I can’t even describe my feelings about that. Favorite character, can’t say. Buck was awesome, locke was actually pretty cool too. But I think MC takes the cake.
Story was bad, the lack of chief didnt help either. But yeah, the story lacked for ages then just came in the last couple of missions and felt rushed. Pacing was all wrong
I enjoyed it, but it was the legendary ending that had me. It had me going crazy with what is going to happen in halo 6. And 343i did really good with the campaign and the story in general.

I feel the opposite. The lack of chief was kind of disappointing at first after I heard blue team only has 3 missions in the campaign, but after actually playing the campaign I think it was handled very well and the entire story really kept me on the edge of my seat. Plus Osiris really stole the show for the campaign and really made up for it. The pacing was fine IMO. I would hardly say the story lacked, there was really a sense of tension throughout the story which I thought was fantastic and all the twists and turns were just incredible.
The Campaign was masterfully done in all aspects (excluding the friendly AI, not that happy with them). Well freakin’ done 343, please get Halo 6 to us soon, I need to know how this ends.

I hear a lot of people complaining about the friendly AI, I’ve only had 3 distinct issues with them but most of the time they’re really helpful (for me at least).

Thanks for this. Really makes me excited for the installation to finish so I can play. Sounds like so much fun.

And that is the problem with H5. This game was obviously made just to get the hype for H6 so they can get your pre-order money and already make a profit so they can release a meh-tier game. Why else would they force locke on us with only 3 chief missions, why would the story be so lazy and just dropping things with no development such as
"oh btw locke your mission is to hunt down OUR ONLY HOPE OF SURVIVAL because he went somewhere and didn’t tell us.
“Hey chief long time no see, yeah I’m still alive but now i am an evil psycho who wants to control every sentient being”
Like wow, no build up? just gonna drop that on us?
H5 is just marketing for H6 which will no doubt end with
Chief sacrifices his own life to destroy Cortana, some emotional scene about how she’ll be happy dying with him or something. Locke admires chief bravery and will always remember it. Bang now 343 have their wish and the Chief story has been finished really fast.so they can start churning out halo games with their own main character.

That is a terrible example. It was explained in the story very clearly
Halsey even said Chief isn’t emotionally ready to deal with her as a threat and chief did disobey orders and did go AWOL. They had every right to hunt him down, for all they know chief could have made things worse since they knew she was behind the guardian attacks.
i would hardly consider the locke levels forced on us either. I think they were equally as good as say the Arbiter levels in Halo 2.
It was a great campaign. The final blue team mission is absolutely phenomenal. It the entire game was made to that quality (it mostly does/comes close to) this would be the greatest game ever made, hands down. The twists and the ending… Left me purely mindblown.

That twist with Cortana back came out of no-where and just completely blew my mind. and I absolutely loved how they handled it. I also really really loved how they handled chief during all this, I was worried that the story might go sappy with chief and Cortana but boy was I wrong. They handled it just right, same with Locke (despite the misleading ad campaign.)
I don’t think Cortana’s twist coming out of nowhere is really a benchmark for good writing. They way they explain how she got to the Domain at all, ie the Didact’s ship going into slipspace, never happened in Halo 4’s campaign and was only hinted at in a forum post months ago by an in-universe account the folks at 343 made to answer some fan questions. And now she is evil and it just ruins her character as well as Halo 4’s emotional ending.
