Good to see that they’ve acknowledged the problem and gave us a status update. But I feel kind of bad, since they have to work now when most people are at home enjoying the holidays.

Yeah today was my first day back at school after a week off. I feel your pain.
I dont feel bad at all. Working holidays is the price you pay for being rich. Period. It’s been hours, they should have it up by now, not just acknowledging they finally know there is a problem.

…What?.. Who still takes time off 3-4 days after Christmas?..
I’ve never heard of such a thing…Christmas Eve/Day sure…

Really? This is both ignorant and unfair.
The 343i employees are people too. None of us are privy to their salary information but that’s not even the point. They want to enjoy holidays too and this cavalier attitude towards other people is rather uncalled for.
-Yoink- happens. It’s not always possible to fix things ASAP or to know why something broke. Not only is it the holidays but they’re also in the middle of a studio migration. It’s not as easy as dropping by and pushing a button to fix things.

This, AND just because they don’t have a complete fix doesn’t mean they aren’t trying. Sometimes there are things that pop up and when they try to fix those they just create more problems. It’s not a “press X to fix servers” situation. It’s a complex system that takes time.

We understand it’s not as easy as pushing a button to fix things, however 343i has an obligation to ensure the game runs as smoothly as possible considering the terrible performance of the Master Chief Collection. The servers constantly have problems in the UK and we are always suffering high pings, there is another thread about it with over 1900 replies and 343i is yet to resolve those issues and now the servers suddenly go down for what 6 hours? Is this acceptable?

A -Yoink- ton of people, thats who. Anyone in the government has will off two weeks off. A bunch of people have left over vacation hours that they will lose if they don’t use them. So to answer your question, a -Yoink- ton of people take off more than one or two days. Grow up.

I thought forum monitors were supposed to keep everyone in line not try and stir the pot themselves. Pretty immature response if you ask me.
while the original statement was ignorant, he has a point (just explained it wrong). Certain jobs mean you have to sacrifice holidays and be “on call” sometimes and if the game isn’t working then it is their responsibility to fix it holidays be -Yoink!-. If a patient needs a heart transplant is the doctor going to say “no sorry I am on vacation”?. obviously an extreme analogy but everyone at the studio should be expecting problems during Christmas time and should be on call to fix it. Should have known that when they took the job, it literally happens every year.
Or you guys could just ignore all the problems and let the game die like MCC…

Employees of 343 that deal with server issues are far from rich and likely earn the same as the common men and women in the tech industry… extremely narrow view point of the hrs and dedication needed to keep a network running. Show some -Yoinking!- gratitude to the poor soul on call, because you couldn’t get a 5 by 5 connection.

Yeah lots of people do, and lots of people don’t. Surprisingly certain jobs don’t get holidays off and when you decide to take those jobs you know that going in. Game developers know that Christmas time is a -Yoink- show and should plan accordingly, they can take time off other times of the year maybe? Crazy concept right

But having a multi million dollar product and having it unplayable for hours before someone in the company finally ‘tweets’ about it isn’t good enough in anyones language. Early acknowledgement for the paying public is key to a good business. This is not good business my friend.
I’m not knocking personal members of 343 or their pay rates, but simply their lack of community interaction when a big problem arises no matter what time of the year.

Actually I disagree. I thought she was rather fair in her response. That guy worded it in a way that was rude, and her response called him out on it with a reasonable reply. He didn’t do anything that was ban worthy, but he could have been less of a -Yoink- head in his wording.

First off, name calling, (ignorant?) even if it’s true, from a monitor is unacceptable, you’re supposed to set a high standard, not drop to someone else’s or provoke in any way. I’m pretty sure that falls under “calling out” which there is a report button for. I get what you’re saying about holidays, but lots of people work over Christmas and new year, because they’re obligated to and because they’re providing a service.
My ISP has people working over Christmas because if it goes down they’re expected to fix it. My TV provider has people working over Christmas, because if it goes down, they’re expected to fix it. Xbox Live has people working over Christmas because if it goes down, they’re expected to fix it. It’s the same with any business, especially one’s which have a large influx of traffic like gaming does at this time of year. I’m not saying don’t go on holiday, i’m saying at least some people should be working to fix these things asap, i worked Christmas cause if i didn’t i’d lose money. I work for a server company so i know what needs to be done if it goes down and you’re right, it isn’t instant, but it also doesn’t take 6+ hours.
Business doesn’t end because it’s a holiday!

I’m pretty sure monitors are supposed to be impartial, regardless of how rude someone is.
I agree there could have been better wording from that guy but Monitors are supposed to set an example not “Call out” anyone. In fact there’s a report button exactly for that offence.
