Brain Reed as Main Writer

My poll questions is pretty straight forward. Should 343 continue having Brain Reed as a Main writer for Future Halo games? I frankly say no. I have met Brian and know that he is a really cool dude, but so far all that he has written for Halo is just not up to Halo standards in my opinion. I love Halo 5 but the narrative for this game was by far the weakest in the series. How the story was told was were this game fell apart. I can go on about what I think of the rest of the game, but for this topic Id like to stick to just how the story was told and its narrative. Did you like it? Did you hate it? or were you just ok with it.

Bring back Joseph Staten and his brain.
This new trilogy is really bad compared to the original trilogy.

I would love it if Joseph came back but at least hes writing the next book so thats good!

A major NO.

I like Brain. The overall narrative of Halo has shifted from the very generic “bad aliens are coming to stomp us” to emphasize the complexity and depth of the Halo universe. Making people reconsider how they view long-loved characters, blurring the lines between good and bad, and enhancing the integration between the extended universe and the games have all been solid additions to Halo.

There are 3 major issues that I have with Halo 5s Campaign.

  1. There is virtually no character development. I see a lot of players pointing the finger at Locke, But no one gets any real development here.

  2. The over all story is poorly paced and the direction makes me shake my head.

  3. Why is Cortana back? FFS, She should of remained dead.

Take those points as my response to Reed as the lead writer.

While a lot of those things are good, most weren’t introduced by Brian Reed. It’s more of a general mission of the company.

To which he’s more or less a key cog, no?

Well, I think it’s quite clear people aren’t a fan of Mr. Reed. 64% of people who voted, to be exact.

That has actually made me reconsider my thoughts about Mast Chief and the campaigns I played while back if he’s the good guy or not I acutally enjoyed this game it made me really think of what is really going on and did he ever do things the right way or cortana way

For Halo 5 and in his contributions to other EU material, yes. However, 343 started and is continuing this with Halo 4 and all Halo EU material. My only point is that you wouldn’t be losing all this with or without him as the head writer.

Not gonna lie, when I first heard a few months ago that he was going to be the lead writer, I instantly stopped caring about the story and only paid attention to multiplayer topics. I didn’t like Spartan Ops at all (it felt too cartoonish, cliche, and straight-up cheesy). Halo 5 is better written than Spartan Ops, but not by much. I understand why people say it doesn’t feel like a Halo story because it really doesn’t imo, it reminds me more of a Marvel movie.

Brian Reed’s story narrative is what I find my self no liking. Halo 4 is still my favorite campaign to date of any Halo game. Halo 5s story in essense isnt bad its just the way Brian Reed went about telling it is confusing and cluttered to say the least.

Wasn’t he also responsible for the…

…Didact’s complete demise……in Escalation? The arrogant-villain-monologue-gives-protagonist-enough-time-to-stop-him-trope-that’s-been-beaten-to-death?

I agree with this. Old Halo games felt epic, because characters were fighting something we understood. Now I can’t tell you what happened, or even who the Didact is. (Played Halo 4 again recently also.) This game does remind me of Age of Ultron, where everyone is emoting and bonding while we go from one confusing place to another. Oh, and action.

Never again, the over all concept of the story isn’t bad, its mainly how the events play out and the lack in character development and lackluster explanations that go into each and ever scene that ruins the experience. Reed needs to go, I beg of 343 to be rid of him. He disrespects the Halo Lore.

Nylund ftw

I think the story concept is brilliant. I love Gaurdians, I think they are a fantastic idea, the storytelling was pretty bad though.

that’s what we were promised with Hunt the Truth, but no “line-blurring” ever happened. No ONI controversy, nothing. Chief ran off and did his thing, and Locke followed him. Their teams may as well have been gone the whole time because they had absolutely no influence on the story.
