This is a change that I personally am for.
With assault rifles and SMG’s being buffed up, the reason for us to start with a BR is dwindling. Why did BR starts happen in the first place? Because it was the only weapon in the sandbox that could do anything. The Halo 2 SMG is bad unless you’re close enough to kiss the guy you’re trying to kill.
What’s so good about a one gun game? I’m not saying Halo 2 and 3 are bad games but by todays standards we should have more options. The BR can stay and should always be a viable option, but it shouldn’t be the only option. I remember when Gears 3 came out there was hate in the forums because the Gnasher shotgun wasn’t the ONLY viable weapon to use anymore, the other weapons in the sandbox were buffed up to stand alongside the shotgun, but not overpower it. I see the same thing happening here in this community with Halo 5. So what if the AR can stand a chance against a BR user now? In all this week with BR starts in the beta I have never seen someone pick up the AR and use it. The BR is still there, it’s still as viable as it always has been and perhaps still your best weapon of choice in the game.
If you prefer BR starts, cool, there’s nothing wrong with that and that option should always be there for you. But I think that AR starts should be the new default slayer loadout.

The difference is that not everyone has it. You also won’t respawn with it.

and since I’m going to pick up a BR off spawn anyway and have a BR/AR combo, it comes the same thing as having BR starts

the point is what if he didn’t die? What if two of his teammate got the DMR and another the BR at Mid? They’d be able to kill you from everywhere and you’d have the pistol at best as your ranged substitute. Granted I do prefer AR starts more for the most part, but spawn-trapping is made much easier with AR starts.
BR starts just make the Game boring, it may as well be the only weapon in Halo since no one ever uses anything else.

My preference doesn’t outweigh yours, I said that people should always be able to play BR starts if that’s what they prefer. BR/AR starts doesn’t solve this. People don’t exactly want to spawn with an AR, they just don’t want the BR to be a spawning weapon because of the impact it has on the game. The AR provides itself as a decent starting weapon that isn’t powerful enough to warrant never trading it out for a different gun, such as a precision weapon or power weapon.

Halo has always been about precision weapons not automatic weapons, and I did pick up ar or smg with a br start so that if I was ever in a close quarter room I would dominate their br with my smg or ar.

It’s not that easy. If everyone starts with a BR or any precision weapon for that matter, the game is going to play completely different than it would if everyone started with an automatic weapon only.
