BR start AR secondary. Problems solved.

Why haven’t they tried this yet?

no

You can take my M6 from respawning fingers.

BR/AR starts may be something for BTB or other gametypes BUT in a straight-up infantry-based 4x4 dogfight (or 2x2/3x3 multi-team), you are not taking my H5M6

I’m afraid that wouldn’t work. As long as people start with any ranged rifle, they’ll stay back and wait for someone to walk into their scope. Having an AR/Magnum start encourages players to go around the map looking for BRs/DMRs. Its a little odd, but it works, as we’ve seen in the first week of the beta.

week 3 of beta has this

Not problem solved at all. Everyone would just hang back with the BR.

Look at Truth for instance. If you started with a precision weapon you know most people would be taking pointless pot shots into the other spawn with them from the start. Hardly putting the map to good use is it?

This times 10. Plus the AR/Pistol start just feels more classic halo in a fresh way.

I found myself using both when I grabbed a BR the first week of the beta. Moving around close quarters I’d switch to the AR.

How can this not make perfect sense? Everyone wins.

Power weapons spawn faster now, so I’m not hanging back. I’m moving to position every two minutes. You should be too.

I thought week three was DMR start.

It may have worked on Truth and Empire, but Regret and Eden are much more open and have clearer lines of fire, so you don’t have as many opportunities to use the AR on them.

1st week of beta > 2nd

People don’t like AR starts because they just love using the AR. They like it because starting with a slightly underpowered weapon makes it worthwhile to fight for and control the other weapons on the map.

Having BR/AR starts solves nothing. Everyone is just going to use the BR the entire time, and weapon spawns will go unnoticed, yet again…

I don’t follow. I still want to pick up power weapons with BR/AR starts. Why wouldn’t I?

Do Ar fans just want Ar starts so they can get some edge on players spawning without a BR if they manage to pick one up? How is that satisfying on any level? That sound more like cowardice.

Please don’t. Maintaining map control can be looked at as cowardice as it tends to have players congregate at specifics spots until they are forced to go for ammo or die.

Maintaining map control due to people spawning with an AR is pure cowardice. Give players both to start with and may the best players win. You still have to maintain control but it’s a fair fight.

If you give people BR starts then they’ll use nothing but BRs. Game just turns into a camp fest.

Not with this games AR. Thing is a beast.

It’s not as beast as you think it is… a skilled player with a pistol/br/dmr will win just about every time… if EVERYONE had a BR, the assault rifle would be relegated to emergencies only…

What don’t you follow? It’s not just about picking up power weapons. It’s about denying your opponent access to all pick ups, ei map control…

If everyone has a BR, then many of the weapon spawn locations you should normally try to control, lose their strategic value. Thus, Limiting the scope of the game to simply killing.

Most people who prefer AR starts, myself included, don’t even actually use the AR…

And don’t give me that cowardice crap. We all started on equal footing with the same starting weapons. With those starting weapons I fought for and obtained a position of power, at your expense. If you wanted to keep that weapon we just fought over, you shouldn’t have died. Now you have an uphill battle to fight. now, if you manage to retake that position of power, you have the opportunity to exploit it just like I have. It’s perfectly fair.

Obviously, I’ve been on the both the winning and the losing end of such exchanges and I still prefer it. If I’m a coward when I have map control, then I’m the opposite when I’m the guy fighting with just an AR and a pistol, trying to regain control. And it feels simply amazing when you manage to turn the tables.
