BR seems really underpowered

Article on BR’s sideline role in the sandbox

> The Battle Rifle is without a doubt the most disappointing weapon of the bunch. Let’s compare it to the LR. Both kill in exactly the same amount of time when fired from the hip and require the same amount of trigger pulls. Okay, let’s look at how they compare while scoped in. Holy hell. On one hand you have the super deadly four-shot-kill, pinpoint accurate, holy beam from the heavens and on the other hand you have the BR’s inaccurate, random, five-shot-kill mess which becomes more inaccurate the further the target is. And THEN, 343 decided to throw some recoil on top of that as if it weren’t enough. Let’s also not forget that both the Carbine and DMR will kill faster than the BR. So after hearing all of that, why on Earth would anyone want to use the BR now? Nostalgia? Should we call it the Nostalgia Rifle from now on?

Link for example

At 45 seconds, the DMR user confronts a BR user in the BR’s intended range. Now the BR is supposed to excel here due to its increased aim assist and burst firing. However, that isn’t the case in this encounter.

The DMR user gets the first shot off, and then the BR user hits the DMR user as the latter fires his second shot. All shots connect from here for both sides, with the BR user getting 3 shots off before the DMR user is able to kill him with 5 shots.

Notice the shield of the DMR user. He is hit 3 times and is rendered 2-shot (‘half shield’).

If the BR user had gotten the first shot as he dropped down, the DMR user would have been 1-shot with no shields because he would have only gotten 4 shots off (which would have killed in Halo 2). But since the BR is a 5sk, the DMR guy still would have killed the BR user (or tied) because neither of them missed their shots in this encounter. The only ways the BR would have won in this scenario is if the DMR user missed, if the BR user out-strafed him, or if the BR user got the first two shots. Even with the first shot he would be looking for a mutual kill at best.

As it stands, the only way a BR will beat a DMR is if:

-The DMR user misses two shots (it still outperforms it if it misses 1)
-The BR user gets the first 2 shots, which will more likely result in a mutual kill
-Both players are 1 shot and they can both only see the other’s chest

According to the frame data, the BR seems to have the short end of the stick… :frowning:

DMR: 1.46s (44f) 5sk
Carbine: 1.63 (49f) 8sk
BR: 1.80s (54f) 5sk
LR unscoped: 1.80s (54f) 5sk
LR scoped: 1.40s (42f) 4sk
Magnum: 1.33s (40f) 6sk

im still using the BR

I assure you, the DMR will be one of the weapons I don’t use (or, at least, regularly).

> I assure you, the DMR will be one of the weapons I don’t use (or, at least, regularly).

But eventually everyone will start using it. It has the fastest kill time of the rifles (save LR scoped) and it has the largest zoom.

BR has the slowest :frowning:

And then all the players who refuse to use the DMR will scream and cry that it is OP. Then in Halo 5, the BR will replace it as the only good weapon. Then everyone will cry and scream that the BR is OP. Then in Halo 6, none of the weapons will be good, but the BR will still be slightly better even post-mega nerf.

And this will happen for every Halo trilogy. So it has been written.

It’s scope is the ugliest piece of crap ive ever seen.

It looks precisiony, but my heart lies with the carbine and LR.

BR will remain on top. In my hands at least…

I’m thinking of using the DMR as a primary and BR as secondary. That will be one of the first loadouts I will try.

Is there some kind of aim assist?. Maybe it was the angle. Idk. I’m watching from my phone and in bed about a third of the way asleep.

It loses its aim assist the closer it gets to a player. Meaning if you’re in a mid/close-range fight with an enemy, it’ll actually be like trying to kill your teammate.

Not the best gun. Light Rifle is actually the best. Put Stability on, and that 1.4 second, 4sk death machine becomes invincible.

BR is tailored for close-range and bad for long-range, DMR is tailored for long-range and bad for short-range.

I thought we’d sorted this all out already. Like, a dozen times.

I’m confused, why would I use the DMR if I could use a Battle Rifle? BR makes me  and makes my enemies >:(

To be fair, the player using the DMR in that video was quite good, and the others, not so much. If they had been strafing with the BR in the close range battles and had just as good aim, I’m sure they would have beaten him.

Honestly, at this point I think if the BR was a 4sk kill everybody would just use that. If the DMR was weaker, then everybody would just use the LR.

Kill times

DMR: 1.46s (44f)
Carbine: 1.63 (49f)
BR: 1.80s (54f)
LR unscoped: 1.80s (54f)
LR scoped: 1.40s (42f)
Magnum: 1.33s (40f)

I don’t know man. That light rifle is looking pretty sweet. Best of both worlds.

Battle Rifle is my love

The new DMR looks improved, but the BR just feels perfect… can’t really put it into words.

just my opinion.

> I’m confused, why would I use the DMR if I could use a Battle Rifle? BR makes me  and makes my enemies >:(

Because it is a slower, less accurate DMR with 2 less shots.

Using the dmr will be a no brainer, but I’m interested in rolling around with the Carbine or LR.

Discouraged about using the assult rifle, but i only want to use the AR
