BR Range Tuning

I think the BR should be given more range like the DMR. I mean the DMR is so overpowering. People only use the BR in FFA while everyone else uses the DMR in Infinity Slayer and BTB. To have the BR with less range than the DMR, I would call it unfair for the BR. Besides, the BR is the Weapon of the Year!

No.

I am against that for a few reasons: 1 the BR was never meant to be a long range weapon in this game. It was meant as an effective close-mid range weapon. Which it is.

2nd is that the problem isn’t the BR it is the DMR. The DMR should not consistently outclass the BR in close-mid range just as the BR should not outclass the DMR long range.

3rd is that we would then have 3 long ranged weapons. One balanced (LR). One OP (DMR). and one that would be OP if tweaked too much (BR).

I see no need to change BR

Like Assassin said, no.
If you buff the BR, all the weapons will become underpowered, then the whole sandbox will need to be buffed in order to compete with the BR.

The BR and Carbine in this game are madly underpowered.

Insert ur Halo 3 disc on ur xbox 360

problem solved

besides if they buff it, the complains are going to be about the BR and not the DMR

If you want a counter to the DMR run a LR. The BR and carbine are the competitiors for medium range. Autos for close.

Personally I’d rather they make the kill times of both equal or give the BR a slight edge.

But there are probably 400 different opinions on this issue so what do I know.

No the BR’s range is fine. It’s the DMR’s that is the problem.

The ranges are as follows:

DMR< LR< BR=Carbine

It should be this:

DMR=LR< BR=Carbine

Lower the DMR’s range to what the LR’s is.

If you bring a gun up to another overpowered gun’s level, all you’re left with is two overpowered guns. Doesn’t solve a single thing.

Nope, I think instead the distance in the DMR should be lessened.

Im no expert on weapon balance, but I’d have it like this.

The DMR will always be better in long range against the BR.

In mid range they’d be about equal.

The BR will always beat the BR in close range.

The LR could work as an all around weapon but it’s slightly weaker in long range to the DMR, slightly weaker to the BR in close range and slightly weaker to both in medium range.

I’ve got no ideas for the carbine.

This seems like a good idea in my head but somone who acturally knows about weapon balance will proberly tell me I’m wrong.

Removing the random spread on the BR would be the best ‘range’ buff the BR could hope to get.

BR is the mid range weapon. its scope, and recoil prevents it from being a long range weapon and is intended.
The DMR is OP due to its speed being as fast as the BR, causing it to outclass it.

> No.

I support this well thought out and articulated response! It encapsulates all that is wrong with such a proposal. It is extremely clear and to the point. I could not have argued the point nor put it in better words myself!

> If you bring a gun up to another overpowered gun’s level, all you’re left with is two overpowered guns. Doesn’t solve a single thing.

And if you nerf a gun to two underpowered guns’ levels, then you wind up with three underpowered weapons, and suddenly the LR will be “Overpowered” at range. That is especially problematic in a game with Sprint.

The DMR kills right in the middle of the BR’s from Halo 2 and 3, so it’s not the problem…

Buffing the BR and Carbine to a 4sk and 7sk, respectively, will let them beat the DMR in CQC, but the DMR has more range. The LR should get a small ROF buff when out of scope.

We should attack the actual problems of the DMR, which is the range making it behave like a 4x Scoped weapon would and excessive bullet magnetism and aim assist. The DMR should have the least, followed by the BR AND LR, followed by the Carbine.

This makes for 3 niche based weapons and one weapon that takes more skill, but is more versatile than the others.

Before anyone mentions the autos, the DMR as is keeps them from being too powerful, so the other weapons should be buffed up to it’s level. They will still destroy the precision weapons in their intended range, although that range needs to be extended through skillful means and they need to be harder to aim. The reason why is because, if bullet magnetism on the autos is reduced, they’ll take a huge blow in effectiveness, especially the projectile ones.

This gives the weapons more depth than “get within X-range and hold the trigger down”, as all the autos are currently essentially SMGs, and makes them better weapons for competitive play.

EDIT: The BR should also have reduced spread to keep the 4sk from being a lottery cannon. The Carbine should have NO spread or invisible bloom as you will have to fire as fast as possible to kill the fastest, so that is enough of a limitaion.

The BR doesn’t need more range, it just needs less spread. I personally like the recoil added to the weapon, as it gives a nonrandom way of limiting a weapon’s effectiveness at range. It works especially well with the burst fire.
12-bullet, no spread BR with a slightly slower rate of fire/15SK AR would fix a lot of people complaining about the DMR.

This^

I love all the arguing, etc

I think the best options is:

  1. DMR and LR range both dropped to 100M zoomed
  2. DMR and LR unzoomed lands at 30m

It gives the BE an adv at mid ranges and the extra 115M from the DMR doesn’t break larger maps. DMR still has range but not amazing over the top range of 40m when zoomed.

Yes, the Halo 3 fan boy Grey nomad olden gaming day dudes love it but that’s about it.
