Should Team Arena and possibly Team Slayer switch to BR only starts. And mimic older halo games from a competitive standpoint?
Yup. The pistol should die. I hate it and I never want to see or use it again as long as I live.
BR for sure. H5 pistol dosnt even register properly unless your host (there are no dedicated servers btw) BR has no problems on and off host
Pistol still does not feel natural to me - I would like to see some form or Rotation of AR/Pistol with AR/BR starts please
I came into Halo 5 with my mind set that Magnum starts where terrible, but after a year of playing it I’m beginning to think its better this way. The single shot pistol makes for much more skillful gunfights. A 3 round burst weapon is magnitudes easier to use then a single shot, and anything that heightens the skill ceiling is fine by me. Not to mention the BR in its current state has enough range to cover most of the arena maps which makes for a lot of camping.
BR magnum starts and get rid of the AR nothing worse than 3-4 players chasing you down and all just emptying half a clip into you

Umm… what?
EDIT: I’ve played BR start game modes and unfortunately… I don’t think it works in Arena. Now, I’m saying this as a long time competitive Halo player… the problem with BR starts in Halo 5 is that in a team setting it totally kills map flow. There is hardly any incentive to generate pushes and operate vertically - something the Halo 5 maps were created for. The game, especially in a Solo Q or MM environment turns into cross map shooting and stalemates. In my experience play testing and in customs, this negatively affects the spawning system (less influence on spawn locations leading to random split spawns), the weapon sandbox, and objective game types… Yeah, the BR is much easier to use and overall stronger than the pistol… but I think having a high skill and effective utility weapon that still promotes weapon variety is a good thing.

Won’t know how well a BR gametype works in MM till they put it in. Or at least make the pistol a 4 shot
Love the Pistol & AR starts. The game is extremely well balanced as is.

I understand what you’re trying to say, but that’s simply not true. As I’ve said, my comments are based on BR play tests. MM is not required in order to understand how it would impact game play (both positively and negatively), map flow, or the weapon sandbox. Sure, you won’t get a full understanding, but in conjunction with play tests you’re able to gather more than enough information to decide if it accomplishes what you want or not.
EDIT: Also… care to clarify your statements on Halo 5 being peer-to-peer?
IMO pistol is best starting weapon to use, used effectively with a good strafe you can out gun and out play a AR/BR/Carbine user. Plus as Heytred said the negative influence caused by people hard scoping would make Team Arena or Slayer a cluster -Yoink- with split spawns when trying to spawn control or trying to escape a spawn trap. Trust me if it aint broke dont fix it, you would be asking to bring back AR/Pistols within a week.
If the BR were to take over the place of the Magum as the “Utility” weapon, it would have to be toned down in damage, range and accuracy. And besides, switching back and forth between the two weapons made me realized that my shoot gets more sloppy with the BR cause it’s more easier and forgiving than the pistol. So the magnum gets my vote cause it’s quite difficult to do well with but very rewarding (as intended).
And while we’re all on the subject, even BTB plays better with Magum(w/extended mags) and AR cause the vehicles can’t do much within them maps without taking damage that chips away at their health.
To switch weapons out, no. But to make a playlist, yes. Most maps were also designed to have BR pickups instead of BR spawns. Most do them are close range maps which the AR and Pistol are fair to use.

I’m his friend, we think this because while playing swat we notice game to game that out shots seem to register better/worse than past games. Now is this because of us being closer to a server center than other players?
I think they should leave it how it is. This is the first halo game where there is a balance between close range fighting with ARs and mid range fighting with pistols and you have to switch between them in different situations. In the old Halos slayer would be mainly close range and slayer BRs mainly mid range which was kind of boring. In H5 BR rapes AR and pistol at close mid and long range so its better as a semi power weapon placed on the map.

It could be for a hundred reasons, none of which includes being on a peer-to-peer connection.

Keep that in BTB.
BR starts don’t even work well in BTB, it’d be terrible in standard Arena. No one would move around and everyone would be taking pot shots at each other.
