BR Back Means Nothing Unless it's HITSCAN (@343)

UPDATE:

Original post:
Projectile weapons are a good idea in theory, but do not work in an online environment of this scale.

Don’t make the terrible mistake of Halo 3 all over again.

Testing on a LAN setting, even if you’re using tools like Netem, is not enough to get a true idea of how terrible non-hitscan weapons function when introduced to the true effects of playing together with people around the world.

Hell, even matching up California with Florida players in Halo 3 was one of the most awful experiences in online shooter history. If the BR is a 4-shot/5-shot kill on LAN, it should not take up to a dozen online. That would be simply unacceptable.

Reply or thank if you agree and want 343 to use some common sense with this one rather than following with their pride (which is what Bungie die in Halo 3, “our game is good enough to not need hitscan”… NO SUCH THING!)

I agree. Also I think we can deduce that Halo 4 WILL NOT have dedicated servers. Microsoft isn’t going to pay for the dedicated servers and 343 is a new studio so they wont have the money for dedicated servers. I think hit scan would be the best bet for Halo 4.

Adding the BR back is bad either way.

Maybe it IS a hitscan weapon u just don’t know it yet…and the Vidoc just depicted it really badly…

anyways totally agree should gotten a petition running and GET THIS THREAD OUT THERE TO EVERYONE .

343i Needs to and should of this problem and either tell us it IS already a hitscan weapon or otherwise.

> Adding the BR back is bad either way.

Then don’t use it…they will have one shot weapons. Use that instead.

I’m okay with this!

The BR is an iconic legend and I cannot wait for its return in Halo 4 but I will not really enjoy it as much if it is not hitscan. I know that they said there would be a one shot weapon for more competitive use but, damn, I really like the BR…

I don’t get the competitive community.

Having real traveling bullets would mean there’s more skill involved into hitting someone, yet they complain?

Halo 2 BR <3 Halo 4 BR an updated halo 2 BR=Yesh Halo 4 with an updated Halo 3 BR = mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmaybeeeeeeeeeeeee but no spread please…

As long as it kills faster and rewards skill better, like the carbine in Halo 3, sure.

But the Carbine in Halo 3 wasn’t nearly as easy to attain as the BR, in fact I don’t think any weapons were as easy to attain as the BR, so it’s still going to be a pain in the -Yoink-.

Not to mention it’ll make all other guns useless.

It’s not the BR unless it destroys all forms of balance!

Maybe because he just -Yoinking!- explained it in his post? It is more skill but i dont want to 15 shot kill when its supposed to be a 4sk

Agreed it must be hitscan. Bullets just don’t connect online otherwise.

Oh dear… We’ve had people screaming about their fears that Halo 4 will be like Halo: Reach, now fears it’ll be like Halo 3…

12 words. That is how many I counted till it explained the very thing that is wrong with bullet travel. Maybe if you read the whole OP you would understand…

I agree Hitscan!

Try reading the OP?

Under projectile settings, the main determinant in whether your shots hit is how consistent+low your latency.

Skill has very little to do with it.
No matter how good you are, your shots are not going to be hitting if the host latency is jumping up/down by 50ms repeatedly.

Hitscan alleviates this issue and is 90% of the primary cause for Reach’s increased hit detection, what they improperly referred to as “net code.”

I do not want to BR to be hitscan, because if it is then there will be bloom on it. While halo 3 used travel time and it was not ideal with people lagging what makes you think hitscan is 100% better. Its all about the network quality I have played games on halo reach where if there was lag dmr would be a joke. I do not know why it is needed to cater to people with bad internet connection vs good internet connection. Even if it is hitscan that does not mean when you have some one that is lagging that the lag will not affect the weapons. And before I here bloom take skill so does travel time. Both have there positives and negatives. All I am saying is do not believe that hitscan fixes all problems.

On a side note while most prefer hitscan, you can not have a weapon like the br have no bloom. So unless you like bloom and believe that it will be perfect even in lag then ok. But I like travel time because one it is realistic and two it makes the game have a faster pace. All bloom does is punish you on hitting the trigger a lot. Which makes where you aim take a place behind the fact that you need to pace. I am sorry but that is annoying if I am trying to kill some one then why would I take my time if I am aiming at them. This why I do not get the people who say its bad to spam the trigger in halo 3.

Plus not everyone has super fast internet either

You’re misunderstanding.

On LAN it’s fine (well except the BR’s horrid RNG spread, but that’s another story), it’s online where bullets get “lost” during the travel from the client to host to other client, resulting in “blood shots” or shots “not registering”.

Yes, “leading your targets” requires more skill, but it’s not worth the garbage that is bullet travel on Live.

Also Hitscan please. Please make it 3 bullets = 1 packet, as opposed to each individual bullet being it’s own “hit”; this allows for players to “sweep” over the head, which reduces the skill.

Pretty much, make it the ZB DMR that just looks like and sounds like the BR.

Didn’t read the rest of the post because this is false.

There’s this as well, but the thing is that you can get 100Mbps connection and it’s not going to help you much if your host is on the other end of the country.
