Honestly, it would be cool to see Chief wield a handmade bow against enemies, and it would be interesting to see a Promethean Revolver instead of the bolt shot.
Are we heading into the Crysis Universe?
… or our weapons could be Sci-Fi Believable instead of Sci-Fi Fairy World. Bows and revolvers would be so unimmersive.
> Are we heading into the Crysis Universe?
I’m not sure…
It would kinda make a bit of sense for chief to have a bow- they’re heavily modifiable, hardly need any maintaining, and ammunition can be used more than once. Not to mention ancient Spartans used a bow, and there could be a few referenced to the Odyssey.

So… explain to me how a design that has been used for since the dawn of civilization(Bow) and an extremely reliable and powerful handgun(Revolver) are “fairy-world” sci-fi.
And the squid heads use a freaken sword, for the Primordial’s sake!
Not if it’s canon.
Just for fun? Yes

It would be cool to just snipe someone across the map with a bow and pin his body against the wall.

A sword made of pure plasma. It’s more efficient than shooting a stick with a rock on it. Also, Sangheili are more culture driven than Spartans. Humanity has been trying it’s hardest to push through and upgrade themselves technology-wise. It wouldn’t make sense for them to take a step back and start using older weapons that are about 500-600 years outdated.
I wouldn’t mind a Compound Bow… with EMP arrows so it can penetrate shields and disable vehicles. Kind of like a mix of the Railgun and Grenade Launcher, gameplay-wise…

The bow made sense in Crysis because Prophet could;
Stay cloaked while using it(huge focus on invisibility in that game).
The Crysis world is still similar to our present real one, plus a few extras. Halo is advanced far beyond that.
While many Greeks used bows, Spartans were generally an infantry type unit. Sniping at targets was necessary on occasion, but no glory was gained from such actions.
A crossbow, I can stomach. But if we are talking a compound or recurve class longbow, no.

Ya a sword made of contained superheated plasma.
I don’t see a bow working against anything shielded or armored. They might be able to penetrate armor from the 14th century but I don’t see them doing any damage to armor in 26th, let alone on armor developed by and alien race with even more advanced technology.

Because just like fairies, it’s unbelievable and fantastic. It would only be “cool” if you don’t consider just how nonsensical it is to use sticks and string or a handgun with unnecessary revolving chambers in the context of 26th century technology. Even now, both types of weapons are outdated and would never be used in real military engagements.

Bronze sword = fairy world sci fi
Energy sword = awesome sci fi
Rock lashed to stick = fairy world sci fi
Alien gravity hammer = awesome sci fi
Apply to current proposal:
.38S Revolver = fairy world sci fi
50 cal Magnum = awesome sci fi
Stick + string + another stick w/feathers = fairy world sci fi
Superconducting portable magnetic railgun = awesome sci fi
We already have the awesome sci fi equivalents of your proposal.
Revolver, yes. I was kinda hoping for a revolver-esque weapon in H4. I really want a high damage, low capacity secondary xD The Boltshot kinda filled this niche, but only because of the charge blast. It’s base shots were less than satisfactory.
As for the bow… no thanks. Unless it is bow-esque, and instead functions on needle or forerunner technology and can easily fit into the folds of multiplayer, I don’t want one in Halo.

Lightweight frame, titanium arrows, and Spartan Strength? Yeah, it would hurt. A lot.

This is the type of bow I was talking about.

It has been stated plenty of times both directly and through action that spartans are deadly enough to “acquire” a real weapon from their enemies should they find themselves needing one. And if they are so outnumbered and outgunned that that becomes unfeasible then chances are a bow or even a rifle wouldn’t be able to turn the odds in their favor.
Now that I have bashed that a bit I will admit it would be nice to have a truly silent weapon in order to try and make stealth more of a possibility. I don’t want it to be a bow though, I’m sure we can come up with something a lot better that actually fits into the halo universe.
Not feeling this idea OP. Having a bow in Halo just seems silly to me. Its the year 2557 and with galactic travel, I just don’t see a bow blending in with this environment.
absolutely not. i don’t think it needs explanation.
not everything should be added just because “it’s cool”.
