Yes I know I already posted this in a different thread, but people need to understand other points of view. This is as informative as I can make it about why we need both ranked and social.
This post is to the CASUAL/NONCOMPEITIVE GAMERS. Different people are different ok? You claim everyone that is a competitive gamer that wants a visible ranking system much like 1-50 is “an idiot, not willing to accept change, annoying, etc.” But in reality it is you that is being selfish and hostile. Were allowed to voice our oppinion on what we want just like you. Yet I will be yelled at and criticized just like the OP for my oppinion and that I wont let go.
Now back on topic, different people are different. You may not be a competitive gamer. Thats fine and dandy. But me along with many others are. This is why we need BOTH ranked and casual. Halo 3 did that! But We enjoy putting time and effort into it and it paying off and winning and having something to show for it. I never achieved 50. But I hit 43 and was content with that. Now a lot of you people can say “hey, go find another game.” Well thats the issue. HALO up to 3 and somewhat reach is the most competitive FPS there is. Thats why it was MLGs flagship game for the longest time. (Do not include when they discontinued for REACH… REACH wasn’t near as competitive as the last 3…) I grew to love HALO for its competitiveness as well as enjoyment. Campaign means something to me like everyone but nothing compares to the core competitive gameplay for me.
The biggest argument I have with the PLAY FOR FUN OF THE GAME ALREADY argument is yes I can do that, but I’m going to put in maybe 3 months before I get bored, because anything that is amazing that you experience over and over and over again gets boring. Think about your favorite movie. Now think about watching it 100 times in a row. Boring. But if there is a rank that I am working to improve, I am trying to achieve something. It keeps things interesting. I often go back to HALO 3 more than reach because I am working towards something.
Sorry for the long wall of text, but this is the best way I know how to explain my point of view on this.
