It’s not an “oversight”, it’s a feature LOL
This has been discussed in theory on this thread, but there is now a rather large reddit thread on r/halo for hidden MMR and sandbagging social games to lower it, to make matched ranked games much easier. Considering it has roughly 1,000 comments and was posted 15 hours ago, this is definitely a hot topic. For me, it explains the wildly varying skill discrepancies of teammates and why ranked matches feel so unbalanced right now. Can @343 please address this?

I have people in my matches higher ranked than me that actually don’t know how to play objective game modes. From trying to triple cap in strongholds and flipping the enemy spawns, or players running across the map for a single kill instead of defending the ball carrier in oddball. Running into a 4 player squad instead of sticking with the team in slayer matches and giving them free kills. Having social games and bot matches affecting your MMR for ranked matchmaking has to be one of the laziest systems I have seen.

I keep on seeing teams where it is oddly min-maxxed between either a player being an absolute noob or being god-tier.
If this is the case, it makes sense that a new player will go “I’m new to Halo… better play against bots until I feel comfortable with my settings and the game’s mechanics.”.
And then they join in matchmaking and play against long-time players who are masters of the arena.

I don’t know if it’s their fault directly. Seems they didn’t develop TrueSkill 2, and it’s designed to have your rank influence by other playlists. Best solution at least for bot Bootcamp would be to disable it in that playlists. I don’t know how to handle it with social sandbagging people’s MMR. It’s definitely an issue. One high ranked player used swat to lower their MMR to make their ranked grind much easier.

I did ranked and got placed gold, then played Bootcamp a ton for the XP not thinking anything of. Next thing I know I’m playing against diamond and high platinum players and my rank never goes down, because when I lose it’s to people so much higher ranked than me. I definitely don’t like it.

I had a match last night where a 1700’s Onyx player was beyond confused how they matched with myself and a fellow diamond 5. I’ve had the same thing happen to me with platinum or silver ranks.
It’s not fun having to hard carry to move a rank up. Needs to be fixed.
I kinda see a reverse effect with this. Back in the Halo 2 days, not too proud to admit this but I’m sure we weren’t the only ones. We were all ranked in the mid to high 40’s and sometimes we just got burned out from sweating (we didn’t use the word sweating, though) so much and we would de-rank ourselves down to the teens to around 20 so we would just stomp on people without trying.
I can see this happening with bot mode.

I find that if you play super tryhard you get matched with other tryhards, but if you dont play try hard you get matched with other casuals. I’ve found this in mcc and halo 5, so I would just accept the losses and try to play worse and you’ll have more fun. Idk
Hmm. My friends are definite try-hards. Even in social. No shade on them. They’re good players but they’re dragging me along on their coattails while I get shredded by enemy players that are more on par with them than me.
Then we get further stomped in Ranked because they have to carry me to a certain degree. Our MMR is already inflated from their overplaying in social plus my bot matches it does appear that we ended up facing a lot more Diamond and Onyx players when half our team was still Gold and Plat.

I don’t even remember what I said. I stopped playing this game. I don’t remember what the bots even felt like. I remember they had some good accuracy with the sniper rifle tho lol
bots are bots…simply horrible. You can literally get 50 kills without dying once if you’re good at this game,

The system found and began a match where the opposing team had a 93% chance to win???

@Fabled_Fella Do you intend on playing any further matches on this account? I’m curious to see what the system gives you and how long it takes for your MMR to be lowered / for you to start getting fair matches.

You guys think this will be fixed when they reset everyones rank soon? Fixes, I know laughable for 343, but this, the rank system only caring about kills per minute basically and desync are by far the top 3 issues for me.
Has this been confirmed as being looked at yet?
No, if anything they seem to be avoiding questions about it. Multiple people have asked on Twitter, and on last Friday’s update.
