Well with news of quicktime events and trying to make the Chief feel more like a super armored spartan, there must be bosses right? To add to this speculation, we’ll be able to drive something that dwarfs the giant cyclops on Adrift.
Not saying it’ll be boss as in HP bars, but something like a giant monster, it’d be a nice touch to the game. You’ll be able to see how strong and agile the Chief is rather than just seeing his tactical side. Comments?
Fighting precursors in halo 4? Doubt it. Didn’t even get to fight brutes or prophets til Halo 2. Not like the prophets were strong but they were just the head figures.
Didn’t care for boss battles in Halo. Tartarsauce and the Crumpet of Regret were lame as hell to fight. I’d rather have something interesting like a large scale battle with multiple types of vehicles instead.
I’m imagining it like Kratos fighting bosses in God of War, or the main character in Asura’s wrath. But yeah the Tartarus boss battle in Halo 2 wasn’t annoying or hard it was just boring because you just had to keep shooting him constantly.
I see no signs of there being posses, as quicktime events don’t necessarily have anything to do with them. It would just make for a flashy game, not that that’s bad…
I hope they don’t I think boss battles are a bit kidish IMO especially if they are like Gears of War where you have to shoot them in a certain spot like the eyes or throw a grenade in there mouth that’s just stupid and fake. It would actually kill the campaign for me at least the Halo 2 bosses weren’t that bad cause you just shot the hell out of them but even then I didn’t like it.
A little off topic but please 343 do not have parts of the campaign where you are in a spot you can’t go but then something falls perfectly to make a path for you and ya I’m looking at you Gears fricken shoot a car once and it falls to make a nice little path for you.

I’d like to have a boss that you could beat by pumping massive amounts of bullets into, if you wanted to, but that be killed far easier by using some sort of weak point or strategy (no glowing body parts or conveniently placed explosive barrels, though).

Ahh idk I just don’t think bosses fit well with halo.

I just don’t think bosses have ever been done well in Halo. Only one boss in Halo 2 actually kept the player moving, and that’s because he would charge at you in a straight line, dragging on cover and being a complete bullet sponge that wouldn’t react to any sort of attack. Have you ever played Metroid Prime 2? I think a boss like this That would keep the player moving (but with a less predictable attack pattern than the fight in the video) would work well in Halo.

The thing with bosses recently is they fall into 2 categories.
1: The boss that sends out/spawns a ton of annoying enemies with the boss actually being very easy to kill with the fodder as the real threat (think of the Prophet of Regret in Halo 2)
or
2: The large boss that’s a real challenge although killing him is long and boring. (think Tartarus in Halo 2)
There is very little room in between these IMO and developers keeps falling into one of these while trying to satisfy both. A good boss is one that is hard to kill but constantly changes up pattern and attacks while bringing in smaller enemies that serve as a distraction while being relatively easy to kill themselves.
The problem with the Tartarus fight was that you had to rely on Johnson to periodically down his shields for you, so it was basically you sitting in some spot he couldn’t reach, letting Johnson do the work while you just aimed a shot or two Tartarus’s way when his shields blew. It was basically railroading you through the fight, which isn’t very enjoyable in a game known for its sandbox elements.
If there are bosses, they should be like the Heretic fight in “Oracle”; a simple, one-on-one fight between you and an enemy that is familiar, but has a couple different tricks up his sleeve than the average infantry you face: for instance, if there’s a Forerunner boss, he should be like the Promethean Knights, with similar abilities, but a couple new ones to provide a tougher challenge, like how the Heretic was simply a heretic Elite with anti-gravity pack, holographic drones, and stronger shields.
Just curious, but aren’t Scarabs considered boss fights as well?
Whatever happens, I certainly hope they handle boss fights better than Halo 2. Halo 2’s bosses were good on paper (jetpacking Elite with holograms, Prophet who you have to jump on and punch to death, Tartarus) but absolutely terrible in the actual game.
Scarabs as bosses are good.
If they had a space battle, I wouldn’t mind having an entire ship as a boss.
With the addition of QTEs, I’m wondering if they’re going to treat boss fights like Shepherd and Makerov in the Modern Warfare games (little more than QTE-filled cutscenes). I would be fine with one or two of these kinds of battles, but if the entire game is peppered with bosses being fought through QTEs it would get repetitive very quickly.
