I didnt mind the Warden…I did not like him over and over again
Yeah, maybe if it had only been once it wouldn’t have been so bad. I’m baffled that someone said “You know, the players have fought this guy a couple times. What can we do to mix it up? Oh, of course! Let’s have them fight 3 at one time! Everyone will love it!” It goes to show the level of creativity that went into H5 story.
I don’t disagree that they’re very challenging…but I don’t know if I’d say it’s in the wrong way. Going after a boss means making specific choices of weapons, in some cases you want to bring a vehicle (field bosses) and some marines to watch your back…and likely get wiped out for rushing the boss…but to me it adds a layer of strategy that really didn’t apply in previous games where there was really no way to prepare for boss fights…and no real strategy once you figured out the boss’ pattern.
Facing Tremonius was a ß1tch. Especially when he had two high ranking red and yellow armored Jackals with him using those brute revolvers.
You lucky we don’t have the Valkyrie Queen from GOW that fight is just a waiting game. Die try again die try again repeat till you win. But nothing can beat a Jackal Sniper from halo 2 legendary or Laso runs. But boss fights are hard like the GOW one or ones the Valkyries. Boss fights are made for to try a few times then master the move set, after that use what you know from when you died then kill them with what you learned. Also, it’s a boss fight they are hard to kill.

My experience is most are pretty easy once you look at the surroundings and realise what the concept is.
To quote John at the games opening “improvise”, become the master chief the bosses boil down to what would he do? They are, for the most part, giving the covenant back their bomb.
They aren’t hard once you realise they all have a clear encouragement in their encounter design.
I did a few at a buddies and tremonious on my own so far.
They new found utility in the sandbox is the difference between success and failure.
Played all on heroic BTW.
Have you not seen that you can still damage the marauder even when his eyes aren’t green? People like UnderTheMayo have made whole videos talking about weapon combos and how the marauder isn’t this unbalanced enemy. One example is the remote detonation rockets, which you can send behind the marauder. Having a boss that forces the player to do more than shoot at them until they die are always better than the bullet sponge bosses.
Ok so before I buy/if I buy the campaign can someone confirm the below.
Legendary Difficulty: bosses are hard (which I like) but all other enemies are easy?
Combat Artificial intelligence not so intelligent for a 2021 game?
Side missions become very repetitive/boring?
Made for kids?
Legendary bosses are hard, but i like it. Enemys in legendary are also fine. They will sniper you from miles away almost 100% hit if you’re not fast enough. I love the game and even the side missions. Best 343 game for sure. I like it as much as halo 3.
I have been playing on Heroic but here are my thoughts/opinion in response to your questions.
Bosses are hard, other enemies are easy. I’ve run into one or two HVT (high value targets) that killed me a couple times, but that was due to improper weapons for the challenge.
I find the AI to be pretty decent, minus the vehicles so far.
Side missions are subjective to the individual. I can see them getting repetitive/boring for a lot of people. The objective for side missions are more or less the same, but so far I’ve found that the environments of each side mission add enough variety that they aren’t too tedious.
Made for kids? I don’t think so. It’s not a mature game, but I would say the gameplay/story is made for kids and adults alike.
I have not beaten the game yet, but so far I would say it’s worth the price tag.
One last piece of how I feel, this is the best halo game for making me feel like I am a super soldier taking charge against the enemy
I’m playing through on Heroic (as a Halo veteran) and I’d agree that the bosses are hard, but I think a lot of it as others have said is down to preparation (it’s usually pretty obvious the possibility of one is coming up). Understanding damage types also makes a huge difference:
Elites’ issue is shield strength, but once down (plasma and shock weaponry) they melt fast. Active camo can be countered by area of effect weapons, grenades, or coils and the threat sensor. I usually try to have an M41 or a Skewer to make fast work of them once the shields are down/low. Stalker, Pulse Carbine? Disruptor, Plasma Pistol are the primary weapon of choice.
Brutes shields can also be tough but the recharging means you need to keep the pressure on even while your shields are charging and the armour is much much tougher.
Plasma Pistols and Pulse Carbines can get those shields down quickly enough.
But their health? Yeah of you aren’t using a power weapon or sticking them with grenade spam you’re not going to do much damage once the shield is down.
Anyway, yeah I hate these bosses. I’m playing on Legendary and they are the only part of the game giving me trouble. The odd cheeky stalker does get me now and then but other than that the game has been kind of easy.
Remember when Hunters, and Gold Elites were the bosses of the game? Better times.
Neh, Halo just traditionally never had good bosses. We had something more like “Boss Encounters” but not actual Bosses. Boss Encounters are those “final wave” sort of deals or fighting a gauntlet of Elites/Brutes and facing a Gold/Chieften at the end. Also Hunter fights.
The only Bosses we had were in Halo 2 with the Heretic and Tartarus, but other than that, Halo has only ever had Boss Encounters. We don’t talk about Halo 4 and 5.
Infinite’s VIP targets are more like Boss Encounters, but the Bosses do feel like bosses. They have specific weaknesses, usually in line with Halo games in general.
Brutes are weak to Needlers and Elites are weak to Ballistic weapon Headshots.
But the shields man, those things are bullet sponges.
melee in a tight enclosed space was not a fantastic idea, or at least wasnt very well done. that said, each arena you fight in (so far for me, anyway) has had everything you need to beat the boss down with relative ease, and I am on legendary. it just takes some 4d thinking sometimes, which I dont imagine most will get on their first, or even second go at the boss. so far I have noticed that each one seems to be specifically set up to play off the gear you either just got or already have, and the grappling hook is absolutely in that balance as a “use this always” kinda deal. generally my first fight against a boss is exploring the arena and trying not to get pasted against a wall. then once I know where things are, its not too hard in most cases.
bosses are hard, but their arenas are designed fairly well around how they fight. you cant use one strategy for every boss.
combat AI is… hit or miss is the best way id put it. sometimes the enemies are brilliant, sometimes they are as dull as a rock. it seems to depend on a lot of factors, and they seem to get stuck in loops sometimes. overall however, they push you when they should, and take cover when they should. on legendary they feel fine. I would say its pretty much on par with what I see in halo CE on legendary.
legendary seems to take the halo CE approach, where one good shot to the dome of an unshielded or unarmored enemy kills them, but their shields and armor are no joke. precision is key, but its not the only working strategy.
side missions are fun for me, I like to explore in games, and so far its been nothing but good times. buuuut most of the minor side missions are just repeats of eachother in different locations or situations. and a certain kind of mission rewards you with rare weapons which can be used to absolutely annihilate enemies if you give them to marines and put them in a razorback. but that is part of the fun for me, messing around on a halo ring is a dream for me, so I dont personally have much a problem with the side missions.
I dont think id say its made for kids. the game is pretty brutal in spots when it comes to enemy difficulty on legendary. borderline unfair in a few spots, ignoring the bosses even. the story however is fairly open to completely new fans, for better or worse. there are a lot of things from the story of halo 5 (which I didnt play, and do not fully understand lorewise) and even older games. some specific design choices go back to elements from CE and halo 2.
Great summary. Thanks @ArseneDragon. I think I’m going to buy it but probably until the coop comes out.
I wouldnt blame you. the game feels a little empty without someone else to enjoy it with. I just couldnt wait. its been a bit too long since ive actually been excited about a halo release, and I wanted to be a part of the launch exploration.
Not to mention Tremonius and his scum bag high ranking jackals had to join in lol. I was livid LMFAO. Played it on Legendary to.
Their difficulty and having to maneuver and outsmart them has been a joy and refreshing adventure for me on Legendary. It’s quite rewarding once I kill them, which I’ve been able to do consistently without issue.
If you aren’t killing them quickly - you may want to bring some shock weapons/grenades to the fights. Makes the battles pretty easy IMO.
