Borrow From The Best, Innovate The Rest

Artists throughout the ages mimic, iterate, imitate and innovate other artists. Take painting for example, there is nothing wrong with using strokes or techniques pioneered by another painter. Just don’t plagiarize.

Reflect this back to Halo 4 and the past 10 years of FPS innovation including feature evolution to understand all developers have a mix of their own new ideas, industry/competitor inspiration and simply evolving the genre as a whole.

Halo has always been inspired by Aliens, Ringworld, Goldeneye, Quake, Shadowrun, COD, Sci-Fi books and many many others.

I Hope this helps quell some of the duplicate posts and somewhat misguided threads.

Innovation in the Halo series hasn’t happened since Halo 2, and won’t happen in Halo 4.

There will be nothing from Halo 4 that becomes an industry standard like things from Halo 1 and 2 did. Halo 1 and 2 may have taken inspiration from plenty of sources, but they also changed the industry. Halo 4 will not.

So, stop throwing the word around.

I’ll remember that quote, and implement it in every way possible, especially in school. I’ll gove you the credit of course. .

Not true at all, Halo 3 had:

  1. Theatre replays

  2. File sharing on a console and Bungie.net website

3.Online integration & Statistics almost never seen that in depth on console.

  1. Equipment implementation.

  2. Matchmaking system evolution that is still used in teaching, training and presentations today.

  3. The development pipeline, public console beta and so forth.

  4. Forge, player game editing on a console.

  5. Online co-op and campaign scoring.

  6. High dynamic range lightng on console.

You need only look at the awards Halo 3 won and you’ll see a list longer than the facts I present here. You need to do your homework, you don’t know what your talking about.

Fine you have an opinion but in factual innovation terms, awards and industry recognition you are flat out wrong.

Thanks mate, sounds awesome…maybe it’s a thing now

Agreed 100%. You forgot armor permutations for Halo 3… or were you discussing changes that Halo 3 innovated?

Just discussing Halo 4 and the innovations from Halo 3 only.
