Boot system is broken. I hope 343 will fix it considering everyone doesn’t like it. Or they should just take friendly fire out. Then we wont have to deal with betraying of power weapons or people shooting just a little bit to take you out of your scope or have an enemy kill you while you have no shield.
i think its just random, or based on % of damage on that player.
How the booting system is supposed to work is a “three strikes and your out” system, where on your third betrayal the option comes up, and the betrayals carry over from game to game. This was stated by a Bungie employee on the Bnet forums some time ago, and obviously its not the case. No one knows how the booting system works, and we all know its broken. 343i knows this, and I’m sure they’re working on a fix. At this point, it seems the boot option is somewhat random; perhaps the option comes up more for people who betray more frequently.
As a side note, the “turn friendly fire off” fix wouldn’t be a great idea. If I blow a rocket into my teammate who’s fighting a guy just to steal his kill, should I not be punished? Not to mention people wouldn’t think twice about throwing nades in the direction of their teammates. It’s just not a good idea.
