Halo the fall of reach would be a good start… (Don’t get it mixed up with the game) Move on to first strike after that, and then read ghosts of onyx. That should give you a good foundation in halo lore. Halo 5 will even make a little bit more sense!
After that i would suggest the forerunner trilogy.
Also for your viewing pleasure here’s a link to the books in chronological order…

Ok, thanks, I’ll make sure to check those out.
And thanks for the link.

> Definitely start with Fall of Reach. You’ll be hooked from that point.
Both are right about starting with Fall of Reach, but I would suggest following that up with Contact Harvest. Contact Harvest takes place at the start of the war, and in my opinion these are the best two books.
If you get easily side tracked and/or bored, then check out Halo Evolutions. It is a compilation of short stories, many which are kick -Yoink-. You’ll love it.
I can’t even make a good suggestion other than to say that you have a lot to catch up on. There’s so much interesting stuff revealed in some of the books.
Agreeing with starting with Fall of Reach although Contact Harvest is pretty awesome too. Getting through the Forerunner trilogy was extremely taxing for me though, that was probably my least favorite books of the series.
If you’re caught up with lore then I would suggest some of the newer books like Halo: Last Light or Hunters in the dark. To me last light stands out in particular as it has a detective vibe to the story, which is enthralling from the off and very fun. It also shows us some of what Blue Team has been getting up to pre-Halo 5, whilst introducing is to new, strong characters.
Cryptum, Silentium and Primordium were my favourite. Read them if you want some insight into the Forerunners, such as the back story of the Didact, Librarian and Guilty Spark.

Agreed! I had a hard time with the forerunner trilogy too. I loved the lore aspect and general storyline, but they felt disjointed and difficult to follow. I did “read” them via audiobooks, but even the Tom Clancy novels were easier to follow.
