Just thought of something that I thought was really cool! You know how Infinite is taking inspiration from Combat Evolved? Well, CE also had a prequel book, called The Fall Of Reach. (I know you probably knew that, but I told you that for the sake of dramatic effect.) So, both games, will have a prequel book, release before the game, which, on top of THAT, are both set on Reach! How cool is that?!
That’s quite the leap you’ve made. You do realize that “taking inspiration from” doesn’t mean “following the same steps” previously taken. I think you have read to much into this idea.
I also believe there will be a prequel novel , but do not believe it will have anything to do with Reach. I believe when they say it (H:I) is drawing inspiration from C.E. they are referring to setting , tone , and mood.
I know that the game won’t be CE again, and Infinite might not have anything to do with Reach, but I just feel that Shadows Of Reach will, maybe, set up Infinite’s story, like Fall Of Reach did for CE.
There is Shadows of Reach coming out with Blue Team going back to Reach a year after Halo 5 to find something of Halsey’s in the ruins of a UNSC facility.

The book is literally called “Shadows of Reach” so maybe not too much of a leap.

Agreed… I’m liking the trend I’m seeing. Even Shadows of Reach’s cover art is extremely reminiscent of Fall of Reach’s cover art. My desire to know more is intensifying beyond minimum safe containment procedures.
I also love that Shadows of Reach is written by Troy Denning. He has to be my favorite author since Nylund for the Halo novels. Just finished Silent Storm and now started Oblivion so I’m real excited to see where this new book will take us… metaphorically speaking.
ps, his portrayal of Fred is my absolute favorite, what a character he became with Denning.
One risk with having a book prequel is you need the game to be able to stand on its own (unlike Halo 5). The more you set the story outside the universe of the game itself, the harder it is to make the game stand alone.

I started reading Silent Storm a couple of days ago. Your line about Fred has me even more excited about my time with the book! Shadows of Reach can’t come soon enough. The cover art is perfect.

To be fair, I think people overestimate how much you need the expanded universe for Halo 5. For background on who Blue Team was? Yeah, that would’ve been nice to get in-game context for. But most other things? They are more or less explained in-game. Not to say Halo 5 was good, but I think this one criticism is overplayed quite a bit.
We’ll see how SoR plays out. I have a sneaking suspicion it’s end will be a takeout. We’re all expecting Chief and Blue Team to retrieve the clones of her own brain Halsey kept in storage after making Cortana for a new AI to combat Cortana now. I feel like that will end in failure.

While this is true, I think Fall of Reach struck a nice balance with CE. Given the parallels we are seeing so far, Shadows of Reach might be able to function as an add-on to Infinite rather than required reading.

My bad , I honestly hadn’t heard they had released the book name.
Troy Dennings is a good writer. Shadows should be interesting, hopefully is more of an epilogue to 5 than prequel to Infinite. Or at most explains why Blue is no longer with Chief. I really want Infinite to be as much of a mystery as it can be.
I really enjoy this return to Reach. Halo ce → Halo Infinite
Halo fall of Reach —> Halo shadow of Reach.
