There appears to be some confusion on whether or not the preorder bonuses will be available for use right away, or if you need to unlock the armor first. Personally, I don’t know why anyone would assume the latter. If you get a bonus armor, you should be able to use it right away.
Take the Reach Recon bonus for example. Pre-orders of the game got a Recon variant unlocked immediately, but they didn’t need to buy the Base Recon first. In Halo 4, the skin variants are listed as different helmets completely. For example, on the list, it shows HAZOP, and then HAZOP ALOY, which is the GameStop bonus. I think that once you enter the code, you get the skin variant (HAZOP ALOY, CIO WEB, Oceanic CIRCUIT, etc) unlocked right away, and then the base is unlocked normally. This would make it more fair. If you had to unlock the base first, it would be unfair since obviously some of the armor will be harder to unlock than others.
I think people are getting confused because they’ll have to unlock the LE specializations (or reach them rather).
I think that as well. Alot of people have been screaming foul, that 343 or the retailers are lieing. I always thought that if you buy a preorder you unlock the bonus but it is not exclusive because anyone can attain it once reaching the proper level. Now no one is lieing as 343 has said no armors are being held away from the game for exclusives , and retailers can say you get an exclusive unlock because they have it and no other retailer does.

It is kinda lame that its only available for that armor…if that turns out to be the case

And I noticed something as well, not all the armors appears to have a skin variant with them.
Maybe these are armors that normally wouldn’t have a skin unless you pre order, again similar to the recon in Reach.
