If you’re asking yourself who is Bonnie Ross. She is the head of 343 studios and in charge of halo. If you want to look over her career Wikipedia has some stuff on her. But here’s a little clip that I found interesting.
Ross argues that game developers have a “personal responsibility” to avoid gendered stereotyping in their games, as well as taking action against sexist abuse. She recalled that for every character in Halo 4 , "we were very deliberate in thinking about who should be female and who should be male in the game, and if we came off stereotypical, we went back to question what we were doing and why. Ross has also focused on introducing more racial and gender diversity to the video games.
Now I’m not trying to say 343 is trying to 2016 Ghostbusters, Last of us 2, or The last Jedi. The Halo franchise. But it’s been very disappointing with her in charge. From development to execution.
Halo four released Nov 6 2012. That’s 9 years ago. With her running the Studio. You can watch documentaries of the 343 of their inside jokes that they literally hired anybody who hates Halo. My main concerns have been development. And piss poor execution of the development. She supposed to be in charge of 343 over seeing development and what she decided to do was contract everything out and we got a hot garbage mess of games. Halo 4 decent campaign/ Way way below average multiplayer. Trying to copy call of duty with load outs. Halo 5 The worst campaign. Don’t even get to play as the master chief much. Leading up to Cortana‘s psychopath world domination.(Don’t even get closure if she had the logic plague) Force to play spartan Locke and his little field trip adventure.
I said halo 4 came out 9 years ago. If you go back to the customization of halo 4 and 5 it’s next to zero of any kind of control. But we finally got Halo infinite 9 years later. Which so happens to have customization we had 11 years ago in reach.
The development of Halo infinite was literally hell. If the news articles are to be believed. The Halo infinite we would’ve gotten in 2020 is way different than the game we got today. Which I will give credit where credit is due halo infinite core gameplay is fun and great and the potential is there. When the game actually does work properly in multiplayer. I actually have a blast .But everybody’s waking up to their trash monetization policies and extreme lack of content. And you can easily say that’s Microsoft fault. She is the captain of that ship. If Microsoft tried to force her Studio to go down that road. She should’ve stood up and been like no we are creating a game for fans. If somebody would’ve stood up they would’ve made their money and had a loyal Fanbase not fractured anymore for cash grabs. I want to blow tons of money in that shop. but oh my God is it God awful.
I mean is 343 truly a AAA studio. As far as Halo infinite I feel there is no passion behind it from the developers but mineless robots clicking away at the keyboards to there corporate overlords. Well not at least the hundreds of contractors that they hired 18 months at a time and fired. And the next contractor not knowing what the last contractor was doing. So full circle hot garbage mess of a game Engine that still has code in it from combat evolve and Halo 5.
The saving Grace of Halo infinite was Joseph Staten. He came in at the 11th hour and told Microsoft they’re gonna have to delay the game. It’s probably why halo infinite landed on its feet and not on its face like it would have. I suggest he be put in charge of 343. He comes from the old-school philosophy. The player comes first. And 30 seconds of fun mentality that we all grew up with in the original Halos. Activision did him dirty in the development of destiny. He was in charge of the lore and story of destiny and they cut everything that he worked on. That’s why when you play destiny and you’re like what the Hells going on there’s no story it’s because they cut it out. Not to mention that the boost they would receive from the fan base if he was in charge. Because make no mistake halo infinite is already on the decline. There are great possibilities with the game. But who do you trust with the future of Halo you seen What 9 years of Bonnie Ross got you.
