This is what’s happening with the boltshot-
“Reduced the range of the Boltshot’s damage scaling over distance. The previous effective range for 1-hit kills was 20’-25’. The range has been reduced to 15’.”
This has certain implications in my opinion, let me know if you agree/disagree with these, or just want to add:
-Reducing the kill range should hopefully increase map flow, and reduce some camping.
-Being reduced from a maximum of 25’ to 15’ will make the NEW boltshot about 60% as effective (as far as range goes), causing more people to miss entirely up close. (I know I’m a noob with the boltshot, but occasionally I completely miss point-blank shots with it. I expect to see this a lot more often).
-Inevitably, people will choose different secondaries. Which will you choose?
-Magnum
-Plasma Pistol
-Boltshot v.2 (That shouldn’t make it sound cool)
-Other (Two Primaries)
I never picked up the bolt pistol. I see the magnum as a safer choice. Lots of power, rapid fire rate is strong in mid to close range, can head shot.
Bolt shot has a one shot kill that needs to be charged and can be dodged/missed/or only deal partial damage. It has a great rate of fire, but awful damage.
I’d prefer to not be caught with my pants down due to someone dodging my charged blast. So Magnum is my choice.
Plasma Pistol.
Because since I mostly play BTB, I see vehicles rollin’. I hatin’.
Still the boltshot, to beat those noob double melee rushers and for people crouching on corners.
I hope people will not complain that boltshot is underpowered…
> I hope people will not complain that boltshot is underpowered…
I certainly wont miss its range since many players use it as their primary weapon (lolAbandon), what a joke.
Assault Rifle and ARC Battle Rifle. Range and close quarters are both there.

lol, I can see it now… campers missing the range

Plasma pistol is the only way to do Spartan Ops Legendary without being bum rushed by 5-10 Elites.
It isn’t going to change much. It seems like it when you put the stats on paper, but practically speaking, it’s still a secondary weapon with a pretty long OSK range, and beyond that, it’s a very effective tool for lowering shields in close quarters. Boltshot users will just swap to their primary weapon and still easily beat the other CQC-oriented weapons.
If this is the only change they’re making to that gun, I think it’s very short-sighted. I’m hoping for changes to it in other areas.
At its core, though, the idea that it’s a secondary weapon you can spawn with that has a very reliable OSK function is the problem. For the next Halo game, I think the shotgun blast should be removed in favor of a stream of bullets. This would give the boltshot a machine-pistol secondary function.
