Ok, what the actual -Yoink- happened to the Halo 4 boltshot? How did it turn into a mini-shotgun like plasma weapon into a 3-round burst weapon with homing shots that follow an enemy and kill them instantly? This leads to a lot of noobs using the boltshot to rack up easy kills. The halo 5 must have stayed the same as the Halo 4 boltshot because this is just a noob weapon that is meant for inexperienced players.
I find it to be worse than its H4 counterpart. Every time I try to use it, I get destroyed by someone with a BR. The tracking bolts are just so slow. I avoid that thing about as hard as I avoid the suppressor
If every weapon that this community was killed by was labeled a “noob” weapon then the BR would be considered the only legitimate weap…wait that’s already a consensus in this community since 2004 lol
Having a pocket shotgun in my hands? No thank you.
Anyone remember Halo 4’s early days before the patch happened?
Lore-wise, the majority of the promethian weaponry was found to work different when used by this new wave of promethians encountered in halo 5. The splinter nade for example, can still do the ion-field effect from halo 4, the unsc just hasn’t figured out how to change the modes. As for actual game reasoning, it’s a trade off. You give up time to kill for more consistency. The gun kills in 4-5 shots 90% of the time. There’s no real room for horrible aim like if you were using a magnum or carbine. However that 4-5 shots still takes a long time compared to certain weapons in the game. Based off of personal experience, the boltshot is a lot less viable the higher ranked your opponents are. Playing against champs in FFA where their shot is much more consistent and quick will get you killed if you chose to run around with the boltshot. On the other end you will do pretty well running around against silvers and golds.

And the mini-shotgun that you use to follow an enemy and kill them instantly isn’t a crutch weapon? At launch it was better than the real shotgun.
The Boltshot’s slow bullet speed makes it easy to dodge in Halo 5.
Um… the boltshot is the worst weapon in the game aside from the suppressor what are you on about?
Halo 4 boltshot = Noob weapon.
I kinda know what OP is on about, as I’ve noticed that I can rack up lots of easy kills in slayer against generally lower ranked players whenever I turn to the Boltshot. Assuming you aren’t complete rubbish at it, and that with a little stealth you get to fire the first shot, it is quite easy to overpower an enemy with a Magnum, AR or heck even a BR when you use the Boltshot, although just BARELY, with your shields and health usually almost fully depleted after such a duel.
However, as long as you get the drop on the Boltshot wielder, and/or if your precision weapon aim is decent enough, it is quite easy to overwhelm that fella. I don’t think the Boltshot is a noob weapon although it technically takes nearly no aim at all to use, I think that it’s just a weapon that noobs should be wary of, those players who haven’t gotten a perfect kill with their Magnums in their lives before. These are the types of players that I farm whenever I have the Boltshot (sorry lol). At higher level play I don’t think the Boltshot will be a threat at all though, once it has to contend against accurate Magnum/BR marksman all the time.
The old Boltshot was far more of a noob weapon than the new one is. The Halo 5 variants are good and can be very useful, but to have a pistol and shotgun all in one weapon is much more of a noob weapon than the new versions.
I’m pretty horrendous with the boltshot; I pretty much only use it in super fiesta or when I have no choice. I’d much rather have a dmr/br/pistol/ar/smg… I could go on. I remember calling in two or three of the higher tier models a match when I was close to finishing that commendation.
While I think the H5 boltshot aims for you, it gets less relevant the further you go up in competive play as good players won’t miss as often with magnums/dents/brs resulting g in them killing you faster before you can even get enough shots out of the bolt shot to kill them. The bolt shot is pretty much only good for lower tier play.
the H4 boltshot was an absolute abomination to me. It was a pocket shotgun that you spawned with right from the get go, made picking up a shotty or sword pointless since you had something that could kill in one shot anyways and various people used it to tease people around corners. It was so bad that the counter to it was funny enough, another boltshot and trying to bait people who used it. Far worse than the noob combo among other tricks people used. I’m perfectly fine with the current iteration of the boltshot.

Totally agree…excellent synopsis.
It’s actually a pretty good weapon.

You just need to keep your distance from your enemy, as well as getting the jump on them.

If you use smart link the bolts track faster when the reticle is red.

If you are in a head to head gunfight, you wont be able to use smartlink consistantly, so that only gives you an advantage if you see your oppontent first
Actually the Halo 4 boltshot I believe to be more of a noob weapon.

This line sums up what I think of the H4 Boltshot

Really?? It does??? I don’t think I knew that… I’ll have to test that.

I also agree on this. As you get up in higher ranks, it isn’t as good as players don’t miss shoots as much. The H5 Boltshot isn’t perfect, but it’s leaps and bounds better then the H4 one, that’s for sure.
