Boltshot Defenders

To those of you who defend the boltshot or say you never run into anyone using it go play some more matchmaking please.

I am SR-130 with over 1400 games played and I’m tired of people who have only played like 30 games telling me the boltshot is not a problem.

The boltshot is probably the greatest invention since camping with active camo. I can literally spawn with a one-hit kill weapon that I can easily camp with.

What is the phrase the pros use when people complain about how unbalanced the DMR is? Adapt?

I made a similar post before I noticed yours. Bolt shot is more powerful than both scatter shot and human shotgun, its -Yoinking!- ridiculous.

The only playlist I ever have an issue with people using it is infinity slayer because it’s more close quarters combat in general. I put it in one of my loadouts just to have it, and I completely agree that it is ridiculous.
Just the other day someone took down my shields completely and I ran around a pillar, whipped out my boltshot, charged it, and killed the guy that almost killed me. I thought to myself “In no way should I be alive right now.”
I also avoid shotguns in the ordinance drops because they’re useless against the boltshot. The range on the boltshot is like 2 feet further than the shotguns.

I actually use the Boltshot to piss off people in camo. That’s about it though. Oh and campers too.

As much as the boltshot irritates the heck out of me, I’ve learned to live with it and try my best to circumnavigate the situation. Typically, I try to pick up how many of the opposing team are using it, and switch to mid-range weapons after one or two grenade tosses. Its not perfect, and the boltshot still aggravates me to no end, but for now it is what it is.

In all the games ive played I think I was killed 2 times with it. Whats the problem?

Here are my thoughts on the Boltshot:

I think the biggest problem with this gun is its range, especially for one-shot kills. I have no problem using it or being killed by it in one shot if I am right in someone’s face, but it’s just irritating when I get one-shotted from a distance where a shotgun wouldn’t even be able to kill me.

Ways to nerf it: I think they should reduce the range of the boltshot as well as make the charge take up an entire clip rather than just half.

How I’ve learned to combat it: There are many ways to combat the boltshot, but the easiest (and funniest/most rewarding) is jetpacking around corners that you know they’ll be. It’s so funny flying right over their charged shot and gunning them down with an assault rifle; makes me laugh every time. Sending holograms around corners and watching them get all giddy and excited is fun to watch too.

Its even worse depending on gametype and map. I typically dont die to boltshot campers per say, as those who use them aggressively by quickly switching and one-shotting you. All sorts of possible situations but almost never do I get any warning or reaction time

I don’t mind the Boltshot every once in a while, but when over half of the group in Regicide is using it as their primary, I get a little pissed.

Fortunately I had loads of fun noob-comboing the Boltshotters. At one point I got 3 noob-combos in a row sitting at the top of the lift on Adrift. All 3 were charging their Boltshot. Nothing in Halo 4 is more satisfying than duping a Boltshotter.

I do agree that a very simple range nerf would be good for the Boltshot. That way it would have the same range as a Plasma Pistol + melee.

Also, does anyone else think it’s silly that if you have 4, 3, 2, or 1 bullets left, your charge shot is still full power and you don’t lose extra ammo?

I defend the boltshot because it’s one of the few weapons I can count on in Halo 4. It’s “common” for sure, don’t know that I’d call that a problem.

I could accept it getting a reduction in range, but other than that I hope it stays a 1sk that you can have on spawn. Tis a very healthy thing that boltshot, love it.

You shouldn’t be able to spawn with a 1sk weapon no matter the circumstance. I understand 343i evolving halo and furthering it from its roots, but this is too much.

I guess I fall into the defender category. I have two reasons for this; for one, H4 has a great number of other balance issues that I tend to rage over more so than the BS. Secondly, even though the game play variety of H4 would probably suffer terribly, everyone has the option to use the BS or a strict BS hunter loadout if they see the BS as the biggest threat and is therefore “fair”.

To me, the range is what is messed up on it. It’s range is too long for something like that, especially since it has a killing range better than a scattershot.

If they nerf the range, it’ll only make it predictable when a player is using it, similar to how a player in GoW3 uses the Sawed-off Shotty, and a quick switch to PV can help find players camping with them.

It’s a nice addition, but it’s range is too long for it to have that much power for a secondary weapon.

Correct. While variety in CQC may be dumbed down a bit, everything is fair if you can use what you died from.

To add to my previous post, I just don’t understand how you think that out of all the weapon (dmr, bs, carbine, etc.), vehicle (overall weakness), and loadout (camo, thruster pack, default sprint, etc.) issues seen in this game you guys decided that the BS was the one that needs to whined a out harder…

Agreed sir.

(1) This wasn’t necessary, as you could have made your point in the numerous other Boltshot-nerf threads flooding this forum.

(2) I’m SR 99 and have been killed by the Boltshot at most 5 times.
