Exactly. The whole point of armor is to fit the wearer. Smaller chests needs smaller chestplates, bigger hands need bigger gloves, etc. In a broader sense, anything but the default bodytype is just designed poorly.
I think their plan is to wait until the amount of women playing left is small enough that it can be completely ignored. It’s more work than they want to do for a mostly male audience. PSO2:NGS (which was brought to the US by Microsoft) does the same thing but for the male players. They make much less outfits for them because they’re the minority in that game and it would be less profitable than just making more stuff for women, or at least that’s basically what they said.
Here are some tips on how I made my Spartan as feminine as possible, maybe it can help:
I don’t know if I buy that’s their motive. I’m sure it is in other games. But with Halo they don’t need to to make two sets of armor. Like in Reach for example, Bungie didn’t make two sets of ODST shoulders. They made one. It was just repositioned (probably automatically) to fit the armor. Male and Female Spartans had exactly the same customization options. It’s not like another game where almost everything is gender specific, in which case you literally have to work double to have the same level of customization for male and female characters.
I’m so incredibly unhappy that they removed women from Infinite. It’s obvious they prioritised other things due to crunch and just didn’t think it was important enough to give a body type that 50% of the population have.
Beyond disappointed.
If anything, 343 is being sexist by excluding the majority to appease the minority set of players wanting these changes.
It seems in their aim to promote inclusivity they managed to exclude others. I love the idea of body types and allowing players to express themselves beyond binary gender norms, but to do that effectively we also need to be able to express different degrees of masculine and feminine features, and everything in between, and as it stands now it’s all just different flavors of masculine body types.
@TOVLimit2117 I disagree on this take because it basically is blaming trans & non binary people. There’s no way they’d remove women to appease transgender people. They’re also women. They/them people are very rare and not something they’d prioritise, either.
I’m certain they just didn’t prioritise feminine versions of armour cores due to the extra effort it would take them. It’s clear the game’s not finished, so they cut corners on the ladies of Halo.
Honestly furious about it. I hate playing as a man, even if you use the woman’s voice they still ping enemies etc as a man, death noise as a man, and LOOK like a man. Slightly smaller waists have zero aesthetic, too.
I didn’t mean for my post to blame trans and non binary people, but rather 343 as they seem to think this is what people want in order to promote inclusivity when really they are being dense and ignorant.
Looking at how buggy and unfinished the game is, I really believe they just didn’t have time for it. A huge number of people play as a female spartan, and in many other games. There’s no way they were trying to make anyone happy with this decision.
I find the skinniest body type + certain poses do look feminine.
I’m really hoping that at least when all the major things are fixed up, they’ll consider adding more body types. But the yoroi armor not even having any changes at all makes me worried… and because most of the people playing don’t even have to think about it and just use the default body, it’s like there’s more demand for alien races. I wonder if we’ll get that first…
As a transgender I totally agree I want my spartan to be feminine, look like a B AMF but still noticeably a girl
Jason Schrier’s report on infinite did paint a rather dire picture for development of the game, so it wouldn’t be surprising that they resorted to simply shifting the size of the body type to save time and resources, which is understandable.
though now that the game is out, doesn’t mean it cannot be revisited later down the pipeline for a game like this, so it would be nice to have more body types in the future. hell in the case of Yoroi you can’t even apply the other two body types out of the three we currently have, so future implementation is certainly needed/would be nice.
Definitely agree. Ever since Reach gave us distinct female bodytypes, that’s what I used across that game, 4 and 5.
Another trans person here, transfemme specifically… I rather like Body 2. But I really don’t mind the only thing changing being the undersuit.
IDK why The UNSC would mass produce different sized armor like that. So the plates all being the same is, totally fine by me. What counts, clearly changes.
Might be due to Mjolnir’s specifications, since that suit isn’t entirely friendly to normal humans, least its early iterations anyways. (Ie one wrong move on the tiniest level and BAM, your hand is now in a cast and in a very unnatural position) though that was the case with the II’s & III’s, IV’s I hope don’t have that issue.
the main issue atm is that compared to earlier takes on the body types, the armour tends to look natural when fitting around the body, as of right now in the current Body Types in Infinite it makes the armour look almost akin to Baggy Trousers, loose, especially with Body type 1. Body Type 2 isn’t too effected by this, and Body Type 0 (Default) looks fine because thats what the armour was made around.
Yoroi is missing this element however, likely an oversight of sorts I suspect.
The only joke from Reach you here is about how fat your female spartan is from behind. Never have I heard on Halo did guys actually want to express themselves as female. There is no other way around this “self-expression” besides body prosthetics.
The only time I personally ever use females is when I think the armor I put on looks better on them. But I already got the waist to prove it, nothing else matters.
I do agree that the body types really should be more distinct. The current setup is kind of the opposite of “inclusive”.
However, I feel that the main reason the body types are set up this way is to reduce the time and cost required to make cosmetics. They don’t have to fit any new attachments to multiple body types.
Hopefully this thread doesn’t get locked like all the others that try to discuss this topic, though…
