Um, they’re not skin-tight, though. The suits Spartans wear have excessive padding AND tons of plate surrounding the body. And even if they were skin tight, a female spartan would easily have 3X as much muscle mass as an female MMA fighter. I genuinely love how you grasped onto the female MMA fighter argument as if it supported your argument. It shows a complete lack of human biological knowledge.
And how does my GOT example not work? How? Please explain. I think it’s perfect. Not only is that a REAL woman NOT injected with sci-fi steroids that maker her have huge muscles, but she wore a suit of armor and LOOKED LIKE A MAN. How is that not a perfect example and argument?
I think one reason why the male/female or body shape argument gets derailed is because people come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. We all have our different mental image about what very strong and muscular people look like. We could just as easily talk about what peak physical performance looks like for men as we could women. The focus is on what a female spartan would look like because the default is realistically probably a dude, so we’re all thinking about what changes would be done to the current armor to make it look like a woman is inside.
To summarize my opinion in my first post, I think 343i took the option we see in-game to cut down costs and to prevent the gender option from affecting gameplay balance. I’ve seen it happen many times in FPS games where players figure out that the optimal way to play is as a woman because you have a smaller visual or physical hitbox.
On top of that, Halo: Infinite has a large number of serious problems and customization was one of the first red flags that customization was going to be cumbersome. I’ve been ready to come to terms with the idea that I may not be able to customize my player how I wanted to since before the game released.
I’ll admit fault to my statement of them being skin tight, I was thinking about Halo 4/5 versions (which are probably going to be added to Infinite at some point down the line)
As shown however, Spartans aren’t gargantuan Space Marine looking people with ungodly muscles, they are extremely athletic and agile soldiers from what I have seen, how about just giving people options?
some people may want to be as bulky and massive as Jorge, some as slim and agile as Kat or Vale. theres no reason to take that away from people right?
I don’t care about what people want as options if they conflict with the reality of what a Spartan would look like in armor. Halo 3 and Infinite have realistic body types for both males and females. There will never be a case of a Spartan being thin and or having the shape necessary to fit in a suit of armor shown for female spartans in REACH-5. Sure, maybe if Halo Infinite was actually Second Life, but it isn’t. This is a sci-fi game based on reality and having things in a reality-based game that break reality is wrong. Vale and Kat should never have had those body types.
It. Doesn’t. Make. Sense.
I’m passionate about shutting this guy’s, OP’s, opinion down because of your last point. When there are this many issues plaguing infinite, it infuriated me to see someone bring up such a useless non-issue and make a whole post about it.
Apples to oranges. 1) Aliens is a really big brand name, 2) A:FE lots of HD textures compared to how DRG has a small install because it has so few, 3) A:FE had female players on release day (meaning it was planned in pre-production), 4) that game has a way higher initial price point.
DRG’s dwarves are the same playermodel that is customized by default in four separate ways. The most unique they get are armor designs specific to each class. The developers did not consider adding in a female character from the start of development. The game is still getting updates, quality of life improvements, and bug fixes. They’re not bad people just because they don’t have a female character in their game. DRG has 5 characters total and I can’t tell the difference between the voice actors for the Driller, Gunner, and Engineer.
I get that. Personally I make sure to hold myself back from being a bah humbug about people wanting more armor. It’s nice to want this stuff and it’s nice that people care about the game. Just feels a little trying when the game released in a state that feels like Early Access. Development takes time so Infinite’s a waiting game and I’m going to wait around to see what Season 3 looks like.
Hmmm, I thought this was a video game…Hmmmmm, I must be missing something!
It’s a big IP but a small studio has to pay for a license. DRG was released 4 years ago. I think there is more expectation for HD textures now. You’re right, objectively they had to have female marines because of the film setting a precedent. DRG has been really successful, it is not that expensive to produce new voice lines but they won’t even do that.
Yeah. Makes me scratch my head how they would do it though. Would a female dwarf have a beard? I liked the Killing Floor customization method where the extra voice lines (and player models) were mostly DLC. At least there’s mods. I hope the devs don’t have a tech debt here. That kind of thing would spice the game up.
I think female dwarves have beards too, so they wouldn’t even have to create new models, just voice lines.
I also found the body types to be meh as well. They just felt like slight variations of the same thing.
As far as i can see they are supersoldiers that depending on what era spartan they are,
They are genetically modified not some random looking civilian, the current player models are perfectly fine.
I found the reach female body type was way to skinny for a so called spartan 2/3
imagine caring about this. sincerely, another lgbt player.
I have to say I agree with this. I don’t want to be dismissive of any community but it does makes sense that you wouldn’t be able to tell who was in the armor. When that female spartan started talking in the new Lone Wolves cinematic I was genuinely surprised it was a woman because she didn’t look like a woman and I was alright with that.
Who cares if it’s unrealistic? Nothing was ever made worse by featuring big jiggling badonkadonks and fat flopping boobas. Also, their claim to be LGBTQ+ is directly relevant when their desire is to have more representative body types. It’s like a 1:1 thing, actually. Personally, I like the big muscle-bound kill-mommy body type and the classic slender and curvy eye candy.
Hey I REALLY don’t want to be that person but as another well known around here LGBT player… I’m really happy with Body Type 2.
I’m fine with them adding more but please don’t assert they’re explicitly masculine body types. They’re not. Please do not erase broader-built women, be they cis or trans. Please?
(They actually commented on this recently. They admitted it was a mistake to omit female dwarves but consider it too high investment to rework everything to fit two different bodytypes right now and will not be a mistake they make in the future. Straight from the devs.)
The other mitigating factor is now transitioning everything to be cross core.
Marked changes in core shape will probably make this even harder.
