"boarding etiquette" - is this a thing?

Every once in a while the loading screen brings up a “Boarding Etiquette” tip, saying to kill the gunner before trying to board an enemy occupied vehicle. Specifically regarding the Wraith and Scorpian, does having a mounted gunner prevent you from being boarded and instantly destroyed by a grenade or repeated melee attacks? There have been many times where boarding has felt impossible and I assumed the terrible boarding mechanics were to blame. I can’t find information anywhere, not even Halo 5 Mythbusters. Does anybody know for sure?

Gunners in scorpions and wraiths can get out while the vehicle is getting boarded. So yeah…

Nope get behind their vehicle = DOUBLE KILL

Gunners gun you down if you try to board from the front. So boarding from the back is still possible.

Only in the sense that the gunner may be able to kill the boarder. I’m not sure etiquette would be the right choice of words. It sounds more like they are offering advice.

If you board from the front, the gunner has a clear shot to your face with a turret and you can’t retaliate. So naturally you want to take care of him before boarding from the front.

Just try hijacking a Wraith in the campaign. You’ll see what I mean.
