So I boarded a mantis and for some reason it required me planting both of my grenades and meleeing it to kill it. I realize the operrator may have had Wheelman equipped but I didn’t realize the mantis could still be so resilient. How long has this been a thing? Did they do this when they rebalanced it to not be boarded from the front and fixed the stomp damage?
That is terrible luck, I assure you Wheelman has nothing to do with that, the glitch gremlin set his sights upon you.
That’s very strange, even with Wheelman it doesn’t seem like it should have survived.
looks like you got an unhappy meal…i dont think wheelman would do that to a standard mantis tho…
Definitely seems to be lag or something like that. I remember watching my brother play a match with a Mantis, someone boarded him, planted a grenade, and nothing happened.

Just seems weird. The match wasn’t laggy for me. Maybe a small pocket or lag? trigger x files music

It is weird. The match I was watching was playing smoothly as well. Maybe something was up with hit detection?
This happened twice to me when I plant a grenade on a tank. I thought it was because it was maybe they were just Oni tanks though. But both times it’s because they drove their rear into a wall and it seemed to prevent the blast from hurting them.
However in your case, it’s definitely lag. You can tell because when you plant the first grenade, you don’t jump off the mantis like you’re supposed to. Same with the second grenade. This indicates that there was an issue with the game trying to decide if you were really on him in the first place. Also, the enemy gave no indication that he was aware you were on or near him. When someone is boarded they almost always move erratically, shoot the ground, or ground stomp in a desperate and hopeless attempt to get you off, or to tell their teammates that they’ve been boarded.

Makes sense to me. I figured the Spartan was just trying to get one more kill before a wicked case of death occurred.
I also just took a closer look at your video and when you get off the mantis you still have both your grenades in your inventory, so it looks like the game thought you weren’t trying to plant grenades at all. That would explain why you didn’t jump off after you planted either time and why you didn’t start inflicting damage to the mantis until you began to melee it.
And in case you think you just picked up the grenades after you jumped off (since someone died right where you hopped off) that’s not the case. There is a part of the video where you can see your dead teammate’s grenades on the ground and also see your inventory count at the same time, so they’re your original grenades. And there are no other grenades on the ground.
