Is it just me or do some of the REQ variants of vehicles like Scorpions & Mantises not die from 1 'nade being planted in them upon being boarded? And if that’s the case then what’s the point of boarding? Like, say I take the time to melee the vehicle a few times before planting to weaken it. That’s stupid because that just leaves me exposed & could often leave me at -1 for what should’ve been an easy kill.
Do you see they take heavy damage or not?
Not sure why that would happen with scorpions. If you’re being boarded while operating the mantis, you can get out.
I had a silly fight with an enemy around a mantis.

Sometimes they’re set on fire from the 'nade, sometimes they’re just kind of smoking. Either way, from the moment boarding was introduced in H2 it was always presented, to me, as an instant kill because the enemy was careless enough to let you get too close.

That’s another thing that seems stupid as heck to me, How are you going to get out of something that’s supposed to be a, in the case of the vehicle operator, death? Especially since looking at the animation you essentially phase through the person who’s boarding you.

I haven’t looked closely at the animations but i believe it was for balancing, camo-boarders were a huge problem for mantis’

But that’s just part of the game & a risk you run whenever you’re in a vehicle & camo’s on the map so… If anything, camo boarding IS the counter balance if someone in a Mantis(or any strong vehicle for that matter) gets going with a high killing spree or just has a good position on the other team.

The mantis is not a very strong vehicle. Vehicles in halo are not as good as they once were, there are so many counters to them

The Mantis may not be the best but it can be a strong vehicle if it’s used right. Certainly stronger than a Ghost, Warthog, or Mongoose, imo, despite not being as fast as those 3. But still, my point stands that camo boarding is a risk you run when using a vehicle on maps with camo or in WZ.
I’ve had this happen a lot too. Apparently grenade plants bring tanks to within an inch of their health. Personally I think this is dumb because the whole boarding process is slow and leaves the boarder wide open. If a tank has a spotter, then there is no way someone can pull off a nade kill from the grave.

You must not have seen the many threads on the mantis and camo boarders. Many complaints were had, 343 made a decision.

No I didn’t but that just sounds like a bunch of people whining about it very vocally. I mean, I hate it when I camo boarded but I just roll with the punches, so to speak.

Exactly.
Yes, some of the REQ variants of the Mantis & Scorpion (heavily armoured ones) can survive a single grenade plant. I’ll say that’s acceptable as some of these are heavy armour and high value REQs to give it a good reason to withstand a grenade.
Man I wish this would happen to me when I’m driving. One grenade does me every time

Just wanted to add that this only applies to boarding from the rear. One grenade planted in the front will kill any Scorpion, while the rear will take one grenade and at least a few punches.
I boarded this Tundra Scorpion, planted a nade, and ran away to not die (which is bogus how you die like that) and I didnt get a kill. Turns out the scorpion operator got out before the nade went off
Could be due to the weelman armour mod as well
I don’t think that’s supposed to happen but I’ve fell victim to it a few times, really sucks.
This might be a glitch but if you shoot a vehicle as its in the animation of being exploded by a nade, the game registers the kill to the last player doing damage to the vehicle, not the guy who actually boarded and stuck it. Happen to me three times, two on the shooting one on the boarding.
