I am wondering are we going see cut scene collaboration with blur studios in this game. I have loved blur studios cut scenes over just 343i in house ones.
While I do enjoy the way the blur cutscenes look, I would prefer in-game cutscenes, especially if they are using a brand new, nice looking engine. It feels less jarring coming out of a cutscene and into the gameplay when the visuals still look similar.
Probably in the form of a prologue and an epilogue, but I’m expecting that they’ll use traditional cutscenes for the most part. The Blur cinematics are nice and all, but they don’t lead into the game very well—or at all. For a new release, I think it’s better to use in-game cinematics.
I really loved Blur’s cutscenes in H2A and HW2 but honestly if the game is actually going to look like the engine demo I’d kind of prefer in-engine cutscenes, makes it feel more authentic.
I’m neutral on this. Both are good
I think game technology is advancing quite well and now they are at a point where in-engine cutscenes can rival the quality of pre-rendered ones. Of course, Blur cutscenes will be better for a good while yet, but since the in-engine footage looked so good, I’m ever so slightly partial to in-engine cutscenes just so that everything looks uniform. That being said, I’d be very pleased with Blur cutscenes as well. Those guys always do a terrific job.
I’d rather it be in game especially with the new engine. Not to say I don’t love Blur, but I’m hoping they’re busy with a different Halo game.
I know I’m unpopular in this, but I dislike Blur’s cutscenes for a few reasons. Firstly, I dislike many design / art style choices that have been made by Blur concerning both Halo Wars and Halo 2 Anniversary. This includes things like the Elite redesign in Halo 2 Anniversary that made them look weaker and flat-faced (presumably to make human motion-caption easier). In fact, I feel they made all the Covenant way too human-looking (refer to the Brutes and Prophets in H2A), but that’s just an example. I don’t like how they desaturate (make dull) the colours of the environment and blur out the background. It disrupts the atmosphere and flow of the game, which brings me to my last point. I don’t think CGI cutscenes work in video games like Halo (or even video games in general). Cutscenes should render with the rest of the game. There should be no abrupt transitions between cinematics and gameplay. The cutscenes should look and feel the same as the gameplay to keep players engaged. Bungie did this perfectly. I hope 343i return to this method. If the in-game graphics are good enough, then we shouldn’t need pre-rendered cutscenes anyway.
