Did the mjolnir armour that members of Blue team wear always have “spartan abilities”, like the built in thruster? When would they have received them? I know its really just a new game play mechanic but canon wise would they have been used before halo 5?
What do you mean…?
Basic stuff like sprinting and clamering yes.
The thruster stuff is likely due to them having GEN-2 now as well. In the past thrusters were usually add-ons.

As in thrusters. They’ve had them since 2552 if the prototype GEN2 armor they had was equipped with those thrusters.
The abilites that require thrusters weren’t introduced until the year all MJOLNIR suits had a full set of integrated thrusters, so they wouldn’t have had them until 2557-2558, unless the prototypes they were using were also testing the integrated thrusters. Clambering and sprinting (without the aid of thrusters) would have had before.
The Master Chief used thrusters on Requiem when he still had GEN 1 armor.
I was under the impression that all GEN-2 armour had those abilities from the start, and the only reason they haven’t been used before Halo 5 is real world production reasons.

That’s an add-on I think, like in Reach

In Halo 4 the thruster armour ability in campaign basically overcharges the zero g thrusters built into the Mk 6. the gen 2 armours do not require that hack as they have much more powerful thrusters.

Gen 1 Mk 6 didn’t have built in thrusters did it?

Gameplay wise it is, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t always have them in the canon. He uses his thrusters when he lands on a Lich at the end of “Shutdown”.

Actually it did. they just not normally useful in atmosphere.
