Uhh, how? There’s still a good chunk of time between the end of that book and the beginning of Infinite, and it just ends with them all back together on the Infinity. So we have no idea what their status is currently, or how we got to Zeta Halo.
For OP, Shadows of Reach takes place about a year after Halo 5 and a few months before Infinite if my memory recalls.

I don’t read the Halo books, and I hope they haven’t taken over the main story line. I would like to pick up H:I and understand right where the story currently stands. That should not include a cinematic to catch people like me up to speed on any literature that has been released over the last 6 years, and it certainly should not include scouring the campaign world for hidden “audio logs” for understanding. I’m personally a little nervous for the story because what I’ve heard so far makes it sound like everyone who plays halo should know the history of Zeta Halo and be super excited to be playing there. I have never even heard of Zeta Halo outside of a few months ago, so I’m already feeling lost. Will this be a repeat of 343 abandoning the story of their previous game and trying to “start fresh” again?
doubt it. At most I would expect audio logs and then maybe dlc. Not in the main shipped story

I don’t think they’ll be in the main campaign, seems to me 343 is really trying to focus on Chief with Infinite.
That being said, I’d love to see a DLC from their perspective sometime over the planned 10 year cycle. With Halo Wars 3 seeming very unlikely at this point, possibly a storyline about them finding the Spirit of Fire and reuniting with Jerome and everyone else onboard the ship. That cast of characters from Halo Wars is too good to just not bring into the fold at some point in the future.
