Yes, the GameInformer issue lists Blue Team as the last officially active team of Spartan IIs. This is true.
However.
Before you shout, “ZOMG 343 U KILLED GREY TEAM AND NAOMI OFFSCREEN!!!” please remember that last we saw Grey Team, they weren’t officially active…they were missing in action. Likewise, in regards to Naomi, keep in mind that she could have easily just retired between 2553 and 2558, or have just as easily joined the Spartan IVs.
Got it?
Active in terms of military service will infer one of two things: They’re professional members serving full time on active duty or they serve actively in an operational capacity (combat, deployments, etc.). Otherwise, with concern with the former, they could be either serving in the reserve forces part-time or they’ve since retired; not serving actively on operations might mean you’re serving on a staff or training duty.
Let’s not bust out our Jump to Conclusions mats, friends!
You say last active TEAM. Wouldn’t that still leave Naomi’s fate unknown as she’s not on a Spartan II team?
Doesn’t really surprise me in the least. Red Team and Grey Team are both classified as MIA. I do wonder what happened to Naomi though.

Yep, it would.

That’s not quite what it says. The article says the members of Blue Team are the last active Spartan II’s, not the last active Spartan II Team.
While were on the subject I find it interesting that 343 decided to kill off black team. There was no good reason except that they were spartan II’s.

I’m guessing Kilo 5’s activities aren’t widely known.
Your title says it all. Grey team is in a way a black ops team and Naomi works with ONI. They are working deniable ops. You don’t acknowledge those types of people are around.
Red and Grey are obviously still out there, just not officially active. Naomi is most likely still out there too. And I don’t know how official that is. Did it come directly from 343i? Because I know that one gaming magazine has made assumptions before.

Maybe it was in a desperate hope that it’d somehow reestablish the Didact’s villain cred after his embarrassing defeat in Halo 4. Then again, if this was the case, maybe they’d have gone to the effort to actually show it! The Didact versus an entire team of Spartan II’s? Now that would have been great to see and actually shown what combat abilities the Didact actually has that isn’t just standing around and doing monologues.

agreed
Game Informer’s statement probably means nothing in particular. It’s just a way to phrase it. Even as of Halo 3, the Chief was still called the last Spartan. It’s just a way to say Blue Team are almost the last remains of the S-II program.

I agree, its probably just 3rd party marketing type stuff. I doubt anything happened to Naomi.
What happened to Kilo-Five anyway? Where are they?
I assumed it was that guy from halo 4 and htt(forgot his name) got his plan fulfilled of removing the active spartan 2s as he seem to have a hatred towards them.
Yeah, I wouldn’t look too much into what a third party magazine says when it comes to lore.

But we did see an entire team of S-II’s fight the Didact…

We should have seen two team of Spartan II’s fight the Didact, but unfortunately that didn’t happen. xD
