So what’s the deal? The recent ViDoc has confirmed several things.
Both orange and blue Proms appear together – though it’s unclear if they’re allied.
Blue proms fight against both Chief and the Covenant.
According to the E3 video, the orange proms also fight the Covenant.
So where do the blue guys fit in? My guess is that the oranges will be the ones that eventually join up with the Covenant (likely controlled either by the Didact, or Ur-Didact) – they were only fighting them in E3 because they hadn’t yet linked up. But since the blues are seen fighting both the Chief and the Covenant, it stands to reason that they must be controlled by some other third party (rampant Cortana is my best guess).
It’s either that, or the blue Proms are simply enhanced versions of the orange ones. Based on our current knowledge, those are the only logical assumptions I can draw.
I think I heard Cortana say to watch out when a Blue Promethean jumped on the Chief (What’s with all the Prometheans jumping on him?!) and showed that skull behind that Prometheans Mask before being punched so I’m not sure about Cortana controlling Blue Prometheans…
It’s hard to see, but at 6:10 in the ViDOc you can the player being attacked by a knight and two watchers – the watcher in the background looks orange to me, no? May just be me.
If not then the night/day thing definitely makes sense, I hadn’t noticed that.

That was the same scene as we seen in the E3 game play. They probably altered it since then

Was that just an updated version of the E3 cinematic? Or was the E3 cinematic just ripped from another part of the game?
^^The E3 level won’t play out like that; wat we saw was a recycled cutscene from a different part in the game, and polished to better fit the day-coloring.
Here’s the part I’m talking about. You can definitely see an orange watcher floating in the background, with another blue watcher and Promethean in the foreground.
Perhaps it’s ranks, or factions of Prometheans. Btw, is the scene with the blue Promethean skull a different occasion than the orange skull part in the demo, or just a remake of that scene?

The blue version is the in-game version, on another level. The E3 demo recycled that scene and changed the coloring to make for a more dramatic introduction of the Prometheans.
