Can I just say before the rest of the post that i would love a competitive visible ranking system, not because I’m good but I think it makes multiplayer more interesting.
I’ve noticed that when I play Black Ops 2 on a Thursday night (because friends do), the population in league play is very low. When I go on the total population seems to be around 400,000 players but only 900-1000 players are playing league! Take into account the amount of effort Treyarch have put into the competitive side of their game, this is very low!
Frankie did say before Halo 4 came out that probably only 1% of people want a competitive and even less people within this 1% will actually take it that serious, has Black Ops 2 proved him right?
Sorry if this subject has been brought up before but I’m brand new to these forums!
You cannot compare the COD community to the Halo community, they are two different entities altogether.
I’ve been in both.
People want the Truskill system back on Halo 4 just with anti boosting and cheating detection to stop it being exploited as it was on Halo 3.
This CSR thing that is being banded about is not the solution and until 343i understands this then the population is gonna get smaller and smaller by the day.
Halo 4 really is on its last knees now, something major has to happen very quickly.
Reach had a ranking system and the Halo community didn’t play that either, I know it wasn’t perfect (I personally thought it was a good idea), but at least it was something. I just get a horrible feeling that in reality, not as people care about ranked as people think.
To say Halo 4 is on its last knees is a massive exaggeration, thousands are playing and it’s number 2 on Xbox Live!
CoD at it’s core is not competitive. CoD is only fun when you play against others who are worse than you, so you can achieve your score streaks etc etc. So the higher the level of competition the less fun CoD is. (There are exceptions of course.)
Classic Halo is the opposite. The higher the level of gameplay the MORE fun Halo becomes. When you play someone at or above your skill level in Halo1-3 YOU ACTUALLY HAVE MORE FUN THAN PLAYING PEOPLE BELOW YOUR SKILL LEVEL.
That’s why a ranking system is so vitally important for Halo and why it is unimportant for CoD. The better you are in Halo the more fun you have. While in CoD, that noob going 1-20 is a kid having more fun than the high schooler going 43-5. This comes from my and others’s experiences who have played both games, and that’s why it makes me so frustrated that CoD is top dog.
The goal of CoD is to play people worse than you. The goal of Halo is to play people equal or better than you. CoD is built for a casual audience playing on an inconsistent basis. Halo is designed so that the more deeply involved you become with it, the more fun it is. CoD is built for casual matchmaking. Halo is built for competitive esports. There are exceptions, like forge, but until the developers realize how their core game is designed, neither will reach their true potential. And that PISSES ME OFF every -Yoinking!- DAY.
Thousands are playing because they are diehard Halo 3/2 fans…
Not because this game is good.
Halo Reach had a skill ranking system but nobody played it because you couldn’t brag about it. WIthout a rank system like Halo 3, people used K/D far more than Arena to rank skill.

I agree to a certain extent but I would say a game is ONLY really enjoyable if your playing people at your skill level, playing people below your skill level becomes boring, playing people above your skill level can be frustrating!

I’m not a diehard Halo 2/3 fan, I wasn’t a massive fan of Halo 3 to be honest!
You could brag in Reach…you could brag that you we’re in a higher league/position!
I hate it when people say the game is not good, it’s very good and will be amazing with some slight tweaks. Just be realistic and compare it to other multiplayer games, I feel there’s nothing to touch it at the moment!

When you start measuring the success of a game by how much money it generated, the game is not good. Example: Have you ever heard anybody mention how much money Skyrim generated?
It’s just like with movies. You never say, “The Dark Knight Rises is an excellent movie because it created massive profit.” Or with Youtube videos, “Oppa Gangnam Style is a great video because it has over 1 billion views on youtube.” Or with art, “The Mona Lisa is a beautiful work of art because it is worth over $700 million.”
Success in gaming is not measured by money, otherwise CoD would be the best game of all time. And we all know that is not true.
I would suggest you can measure success by how much money it generates, therefore Halo 4 is successful.
Is it a good game and do people want to keep playing it is another matter though…since Halo 4 is the 2nd most played game on the 360 I would say it is also successful on that front as well!
As Frankie himself said, “1%” was just a phrasal kind of thing, not the reality.
Also CoD as different kind of players, who choses CoD usually just wants to have fun without caring about playing well or wants to get tons of kills against noobs…it’s not very surprising that not many players want competition there.
1-50 in game would be fantastic fot all the Halo 4 players.

1.false
2.sometimes
3.the charts include all modes not just matchmaking.
> 1-50 in game would be fantastic fot all the Halo 4 players.
Nope i dont want to be matched with similar skilled players 24/7 on all gametyps, if i wanted that i would play Ranked if that was available in the game.
