Bloom

Bloom adds inconsistency to otherwise consistent game. Hit registration on Reach with the DMR is great on LAN, but not online. The DMR is a great weapon but with the bloom the way it is makes it a water gun. In online play the bloom awards the noob who spams his shot especially if he has a superior connection. Matchmaking is not LAN and is subject to various levels connections.

In theory, bloom is a great mechanic what forces players to think about their shots, utilising crouching for faster bloom reset with your shot forces a mobility/accuracy dynamic what is actually a great design implemented by bungie. Wish it could of worked for them.

The downside? 1) It doesn’t fairly balance out with the minority of players who roll dice with the DMR and just floor it with the trigger, which seems effective at every level of skill. 2) Better connection means better chances of spamming the DMR and landing every shot. Poor connection means subject to missing every shot spent with the bloom dilated. Therefore forcing the player to pace every shot and losing to those spamming with better connections. 5-7 shots (2-3 per second) being shot by the spammer with good connection to 2-4 shots (1 per second) and death to the player with a poorer connection who paces every shot. I consistently play kids who constantly spam their DMRs and land every shot while I pace forcing me to shoot faster and losing. The bloom is broken

No bloom doesn’t make bad players good or the better players better, it levels out the game to the right balance and improves the speed of gameplay. It will however weed out the bad players cuz the reticle is smaller and the shot registration is smaller making it harder for the noob to get his shots to hit. Too long overdue.
