First: Proof
I’ve been optimistic about Halo 4 since its announcement. I believed that 343 Industries was an incredibly talented, passionate team that knew what a Halo game was supposed to be. I was absolutely positive that they’d learned from Reach’s mistakes, and that we’d get another amazing Halo game out of them. I was proud to stand by them when they announced new features, and applauded them for taking risks and pushing the franchise forward. I believed in 343.
I am very sad to say that I no longer do.
You know, I’m not mad. I’m disappointed, and I’m melancholy. I accepted a long time ago that Halo 4 wouldn’t be like the trilogy, but I never expected them to look at Reach for inspiration. I never expected them to take a mechanic that nearly killed competitive Halo and try to shove it into Halo 4.
I thought we had this thing beat. I thought recoil was our answer.
I guess I was wrong. I was wrong about everything. I’m not going to stand here and tell you Halo 4 is a bad game and it isn’t worth your time; That’s up to you. I’m here to say to 343 that you folks have let down a very hardcore, long-time fan today. I don’t know where you’re going with all this, but I sure hope it’s worth it for you. Even more I hope you understand why I and many others are disappointed.
I wish you all a smooth ride and a safe trip to whatever destination you’re seeking. But I’m getting off at the next stop, and I’m not looking back. Bloom ruined Reach for me, and I’m not about to blow 60 dollars on something I know I’ll hate. I will say one thing, you guys really had something special going here. It’s really a shame.
I hope that all of you who stick around enjoy the game. It’s just too much for a long-time fan like me. I can’t do this anymore.
Goodbye, Halo. It was fun.
Edit:
I’d like to clarify a few things.
-
I do not think 343 are bad people or developers. I’ve met a few of them and they’re really good folks. I simply don’t like, and am disappointed by, the direction they’re taking Halo 4 in. None of that is meant as offense or reflection on their character.
-
I do not think Halo 4 will be a bad game. It simply is not a game for me.
Overreaction much?
Bloom isn’t bad if implemented correctly. In that article did said author complain about bloom? No.
“The DMR was single shot with bloom. However, the bloom reset much faster than the DMR in Halo Reach. I didn’t have to pace my shots much at all.”
Sounds decent enough to me.
> Overreaction much?
I always said “If they have bloom in Halo 4, I’m not buying it”. I thought bloom was gone. It clearly is not.
Such is life.
So what, even if the AR had bloom you wouldn’t have bought the game? lol
You want to say bloom sucks, yet you use a post from a guy that says the bloom isn’t even an issue…I think you need to find another source to support your claim if you want to be taken seriously, especially when that guy said the following:
Everything was subject to change.
Time
Bro, You are over reacting. Big time.
Oh no! Not bloom…anything but bloom! -sarcasm-
> First off, I had a lot of fun playing. It felt like Halo. Movement was really crisp and the aiming was solid.
>
> Before I talk about Halo 4, it’s very important for everyone to understand this. The developer bashingthat happens in our community has to stop. Every time Halo 4 details are released, the competitive community is there to rip apart every detail and publicly blast 343 about their decisions. If this continues, I would not be surprised if the majority of developers walk away from the competitive audience and consider them a community that simply cannot be satisfied. When you see new information on an upcoming game, think about the positives it could bring to the game first. If you’re certain it’s something that will simply not work, come together with positive feedback on how to improve it or tweak it. Blasting employee Twitter accounts and bashing the game hurts everyone.

> I was explicitly told that weapon tuning is still being refined. This is a very very early build of the game and all the weapons are still being tuned. I’m only writing about what I actually played with.{
People Are missing the point Here

Bloom is not an “issue” in 85% TU Reach. The general consensus is that it was fixed. Yet, I still don’t have fun playing Reach. I don’t like it; I never liked it; I will not like it in Halo 4.
It’s really that simple.
The MLG player liked it, in fact, he loved it, and another one on NeoGaf gave similar comments. -Regarding Halo 4 overall.
Don’t overreact. So far, it is very small amount on the DMR, and it is also on the pistol.
The BR has no bloom.
> Oh no! Not bloom…anything but bloom! -sarcasm-
Nice that you are adding to the discussion… sarcasm
Bloom has been in every Halo Game.
Reach was the only one that allowed you to see it.
It may not have been on all the weapons but it was there. (AR from 1-Reach is an example of having bloom)
Not to sound like a -Yoink-…
But you wont be missed

Care to explain? I find it hard to believe it is simple when you bring with you a post that is against your claim.

Then its not because of bloom, its the overall Feel of reach, This is what I got out of your statement man
I’ll just leave this here.
> Took from NeoGAF

> The Halo 4 DMR does not feature bloom. However, the reticule expands upon firing and resets fully in lockstep with the fixed firing rate, the same way the Reach sniper rifle ‘bloom’ works. In that sense it’s not so much bloom as a visual signal for when the next shot can be fired.

Nah.
I don’t like bloom. Me. Personally. It’s not Halo to me.
Like I said, I’m not even that upset. I felt the need to post because I don’t think 343 understands just how much these kinds of decisions affect people who have been fans since the very beginning.
I don’t care how little effect it has on the game. The fact that someone can spam their weapon and get that lucky headshot even once is something I’m just not going to deal with anymore. I raged out with Reach, and I’m not going to put myself through that kind of disappointment again.

If you read the guy’s post above your’s, it’s not a bloom. It’s basically what the Sniper rifle does in Reach with its “bloom”.
Your DMR is fine.
it’s not bloom it’s kind of bloom :’)
