Watch some of the footage of the DMR usage. The reticle blooms as you shoot, and if you look closely you can see that you appear to be able to fire before the reticle has completely settled back down, which means that bullet grouping is affected somewhat by your rate of fire though not nearly as much as in reach.
This means that bloom is back, REAL bloom that affects your accuracy. They seem to have tweaked it so thats its only a consideration at ranges outside that of the BR and carbine, which should alleviate the complaints that plagued reach and is what will give a DMR an accuracy edge in that situation. But the bloom is there, and the pistol DEFINITELY has real bloom. A couple of other guns too. So i dont know why everyone is going around claiming “VISUAL BLOOM ONLY!”
So thats another mechanic carried over from reach. Im pretty happy about it, there was a lot that reach did right and 343i obviously think so too. Hopefully it wont be so contentious this time.
So as far as i can tell from the footage so far, bloom is back.
I think they said some weapons would have it, others wouldn’t. But just so long as it’s TU bloom on the DMR, I’ll be fine. Tried playing with non-TU bloom the other day…never again.

This is a new game. Nothing to do with a TU.
TU bloom was a disaster for its own reasons, but i think the direction theyve gone with the H4 bloom implementation could work well, vis a vis the entire rest of the game, which is where TU bloom failed.

I still think they’ve got the wrong idea with bloom (which should be on most weapons, including BR). The problem with bloom for the DMR in Reach is that the bloom didn’t expand far enough or fast enough to make spamming a less viable option. With a fast reset rate it would ensure that spammers would lose most encounters.
Hell, since this is a game let’s look at other options. Like make it that precision weapons can’t achieve a headshot when the bloom reticle is outside the aiming reticle, or you can’t achieve a headshot without the bloom fully reseting. Therefor, a spammer will never win a fight without a force multiplier.

Yes I realize it’s a new game, I was making a comparison. TU bloom on the DMR from Reach is a direction I would not mind in Halo 4. If they have a better method, which I may not have seen since I haven’t seen the Halo 4 DMR in action much, then never mind that.

Yeah i was on the more bloom not less bandwagon for reach, but this is a new game. They gone in the opposite direction, but as i said i think it could work out really well given the rest of the sandbox this time. The bloom and the scope will give the DMR a large range bonus over the other rifles.

I’m going to have to agree somewhat.
I never liked admitting this, but despite liking Reach there were some broken aspects.
For example: I never lost to an AR at close range with the Magnum. Not once. I could spam as fast as I liked and he would die before he understood what was happening.

Well for the purposes of a comparison, it looks like theyve taken the TU bloom concept and gone further, but as i said it should work well with the rest of the sandbox and the general style of the game this time.
Im pretty happy its back at all, i fully expected bloom to be gone forever after the complaints in reach. I glad they had the balls to bring it back because theres nothing wrong with the concept.
