Bloom: cure all... no... yes...?

Bloom is a common discussion now. Many to most hate it with a pure deep vengeful anger. Some just stay on the fence or just don’t give a care.

I hate it and like it. It adds another variable to gameplay and levels the playing field so Mp isn’t an off putting one sided battle between skill levels. But it makes the once easy job of killing your opponent, AI or player, that much harder and can drive a person near insanity.

The options or “demands” a more suiting word, from the community is to remove it completely or have an On/Off switch. Both present good arguments as to their reasons for this decision. But i don’t believe either is the most wise path to fallow. People will still hate on it if we still use it selectively and complete removal will just be a missed opportunity.

What we can do is use a slider or percentage for the correct amount of bloom required during custom or MatchMaking games. From 0%-100% or 1-10 will be the range you can change the variable of bloom. That way MLG play-lists can use a 0% bloom, your average Joe play-lists can use a good low amount that would vary depending on the game from low, medium, to high.

Customs will benefit from this too, players can have as realistic a game as possible, just crank the bloom. If you want to play fast and deadly, drop bloom completely. If you want a classic feel, put it at the percent you feel is correct or just put it where you believe it will suit your game and map.

My point is, don’t just drop it for good and don’t make it black and white. Give players the chance to decide how or if it should be used correctly. It might find its place.

Most of your minds are made up, i know this and i expect a flame war over this post. But i just think its a bad idea just to toss an asset if a use can be found.

no bloom

at all

period

Reticle bloom should never be in a Halo game.

Nope. Absolutely not.

If you want to add another layer of skill to a game don’t add randomness. Get rid of hitscan so that you have to lead your shots like Halo 1 and 3.

I say again, Halo will remain in it’s current state of mediocrity until gimmicks like bloom and armor abilities are removed completely.

Bloom is bad becuase it adds a random effect to the game, and it makes me feel like i died because someone got lucky spamming there shots when i try to pace mine. If halo 4 has bloom I WILL NOT BUY IT.

Bloom needs to go to hell. The ZB DMR is the sexiest thing I have ever seen. Goldpro settings make it even better.

If bloom is in Halo 4, everyone on these forums would rage so hard, they’d probably shut them down or something. With that being said, expect no bloom in another Halo game.

To be honest I stopped reading your post after I saw “I hate it and LIKE IT?!” You serious??? You like knowing your shot will be randomly registered?

Are you currently enrolled in the “Defense against Reach” army?

THE BLOOM WAS THE WORST THING EVER TO BE INTRODUCED IN A HALO GAME!!! AND SHOULD NEVER EVER EVER BE IN ANY FUTURE HALO GAME!!!

Linkage I don’t like bloom as it is implemented. I could see it if implemented right, but, as it is now, NO.

Oh did I state no Bloom at all?

^I lol’d not gonna lie.

Halo isn’t about making it easier for bad players to play against the good players. Halo is about being better due to skill, not to random ‘bloom’.

I see no valid points to using bloom, other than to make it easier for the very bad players to get lucky and best the very good players, which I find not Halo-esque.

I… HATE… BLOOM!

If they add bloom to Halo 4, my hate will expand to the developers and to the franchise.

i would rage so hard if they add bloom to Halo 4.

At the end of the day, 343i are smart people that want the franchise to be successful again, so there’s nothing to be afraid of. They second golden era (last was with Halo 2) of Halo might be 2012, you never know.

DEATH TO BLOOM

I’d rather get my entire pokemon team swept by a Swords Dance boosted Haxorus than to deal with Reach’s version of bloom for Halo 4…

Oh and bullet spread. I dislike that too. Just go look at Reach’s Magnum and to a lesser extent, Halo 3’s BR. Reach mag is more random because it has spread and bloom. Herp derp Bungie, i tip my hat off to you.

Now if no one minds, i’ll am going to make use of that Haxorus and see if i can make players rage d/c on Random Matchup with it. Pokegen >3

If 343i gave us ZB and 85% Bloom, it’s because they know what the fans want.

They know that Halo 2 was the golden era of Halo because of obvious reasons :stuck_out_tongue:

Halo has been all about making it easier for bad players to play against the good players since Combat Evolved. Just about every change Bungie made since was to remove skill from the game.

I would remove both bloom and auto aim, make as many of the weapons hitscan as possible to reduce lag/host advantage, and let my bullets go where I’m aiming. This would also help to balance out the weapon sandbox to boot. But I dream…

Removal of auto aim is not optimal. No one would be able to aim, just try to betray your teamates and you’ll see. A better alternative is to decrease it.
.

Defenitly no bloom at all because all it does is give total noobs a slight advantage in a fight because the pro can see an oblivious noob and shoot him by pacing in mid range the noob can turn around and spam everywhere and still get a kill the same thing can happen if the pro spams and the noob paces therefore bloom is a No becuase it adds luck to the game instead of the use of the I saw you 3 seconds before you knew you were getting shot so you should be dead rule or the I can shoot twice the bullets at you because you do not know how to use your trigger finger rule so I deserve the kill for putting more bullets on the target and I do not want all of my bullets to miss and all of his to hit because of bloom

No, bloom even’s the playing field, and in doing so, pisses off anyone who is good at Halo.

If Reach had a half-decent ranking system, there would be no need for leveling the playing field. Look at Halo 2-3. They did not have bloom, but they had a ranking system and it worked great.

… No.

The reason why I don’t want bloom is because every time I get killed I dont think “oh nice kill” I think “he probably got luck with bloom!” That is ridiculous that randomness has been added. I say stick with what halo 3 did!
