Blocking Cheaters in Ranked Games/DDOS

SO, I read the update. When they mentioned cheating I was like, “Yes, they figured out a way to hide others players ip addresses so people can no longer host boot/lag out/DDOS other players.” No. Now, I have to match up with those same players so DDOS and cheat by illegal network manipulation. Bravo 343, way to not fix the biggest problem there.

Who else agree they need to find a way to prevent this type of cheating? I literally cant stand getting kicked offline, and it isnt fair to my wife or anyone else at my house that our internet gets hit offline either. Like, I dont play a crap load of halo anymore, but when I do play I want it to be cheating free. Makes me want to play or care even less when people can cheat like this.

TL;DR: people who cheat via host booting/ DDOS have small -Yoink!-’s and are so mad about that, they decide to cheat in video games to make themselves feel better. True story.

Plz leave comments and let me know if there is a way to prevent playing or getting hit my these kids with no lives that host boot/DDOS.

There is no way to stop them without resporting to fighting fire with fire.

You can get their IP address and block theirs. That may help. If one of you get host it would prevent you from getting matched up together. Depends how the matchmaking system works.

Use Zone Alarm and Cain and Abel when you match the cheaters get their IPs than in Zone Alarm put their IPs as not trusted and you will never match them.

Not true. Bungie during management of Halo 3, Halo Reach and more recently Destiny has systems in place to detect lag switches and host booters. I am sure these systems are not perfect, but they do ban users who frequently use such cheating methods.

ive said this many times, there are no cheaters on the one yet, the files havent even been decrypted yet, you ARE experiencing network issues, please think about getting better internet

-Yoink- were not talking about JTAGERS or RGHS were talking about DDOS and IP FLOODING WHICH ARE ON EVERY SINGLE SYSTEM, since theres no dedicated servers IPS leak out, sorry dude but your very dumb with that type of response lmfao

lol you have never heard of a botnet have you? Maybe do a little research instead of telling people off.

Thank you guys for saving me from having to respond likewise.

I was wondering though, and maybe someone more tech savy than myself can explain this. How come League of Legends doesnt experience issues with people DDOS/host booting/ip flooding. Are players ip addresses hidden? I know they has issues years ago with skype names having ip addresses associated with them, but i am talking about modern day LoL where people never cheat via ip flooding. Is that because it is server based? ALso would dedicated servers fix this problem for halo then?

Hmm… i might have to try something like that but i honestly almost dont even care anymore considering how broke the match making and leveling systems are. I just want good competitive games.

Yes dedicated servers should fix the problem if done correctly but I doubt it really would. So in an ideal world you would have each player connect to a dedicated server and that’s it. All your communication goes to/from the server. The only IP address exposed to you is the servers IP. Even with Xbox hosts, the only IP you should see is the host xbox’s IP.

My understanding is it’s not done this way. From what I’ve heard the Xbox (on MCC and possibly other games but not necessarily all games) opens up a connection to everyone in the game to use for voice chat. All voice communications are sent directly to each client to reduce latency. This avoids the extra hop of the host. So even with dedicated servers, this system still exposes the client IPs.

Says the “noob” who doesn’t provide any proof or reasoning.

Just a friendly observation here that having a great deal of skill and a gamer tag with MLG in it just might make you a bigger target for hassling than the average individual may encounter.

I don’t go 25-2 every game lol and im only a level 28 because I dont play that much… so I would doubt it has to do with skill. Possibly MLG in my tag makes me/my games more targeted, but I have a lot of friends who complain about it as well. Good point though… i guess it depends on whether people are cheating just to troll others or cheat to win and level up.

Thanks that makes sense. So with Dedicated servers, ip addresses will be hidden unless they open up the ip’s for easier communication? Is that correct?

For the most part. In general your Xbox only communicates to the host (either a dedicated server or another Xbox) and that would be the only IP visible to you by running a packet capture. Only the host would know everyone’s IP.

This isn’t the case with MCC. Your Xbox has an open connection to everyone in the game to send voice chat to directly to reduce latency. These connections are also made in case the host drops, the remaining xboxes can come to a consensus on who the new host should be and reconnect. These open connections are what allows people to packet capture to get your IP address.

I’ve had some success with VyprVPN. I have a Netgear R7000 with tomatousb by shibby and the VyprVPN add-on loaded on my router. You can select your xbone to use the vpn while your other devices bypass the vpn. Their internal filters will protect you from simple dos, and if your vpn gets knocked off with ddos, your other devices will stay connected. I chose VyprVPN because they rated very well in preventing ip leakage and because the router setup was easy to do and use.

not an adbot, I swear.

I use their openvpn 160 encryption for best throughput and better encryption than pptp 120. You can use higher encryption, but expect lower throughput. Also, I have the higher tier subscription that inculdes the NAT firewall - gives you a moderate NAT rating on the xbox multiplayer network test.

if you ‘don’t play halo that much’ i doubt that youve encountered cheaters… i play MCC alot, and have never encountered cheats, I’ve had plenty bad connection issues, but never cheaters manipulating stuff…

i think you just get a bad connection sometimes, but you’re naive and saying it is cheating.

if a guy in Bulgaria gets host, everyone will probably think hes cheating, as the connection and ping will be so bad for everyone else…

OP are you american? because if you are, you have no idea what it feels like for everyone else non-american, we get terrible connections all of the time in Europe during USA peak hours, but we don’t call Americans all cheaters, its just that we cant get host against Americans. fingers-crossed that Halo 5’s dedicated servers will balance the game for everyone non-american, be funny watching Americans who thought they were good players feel worse because they haven’t got host advantages anymore! probably resulting in all us Europeans being reported for ddos’in and -Yoink- hahah

Except he mentions his wife getting kicked off the internet as well which would only occur with a ddos attack…
