Blending the books and game.

Believe it or not, guys, there’s a -Yoink- tonne of people who ADORE Halo and have never read the books. And who can blame them? Everyone likes certain media formats, and they followed the story of the games. But those who read the books have an in depth knowledge of the precursors, Forerunners and the Flood. Now, I don’t know how obvious this is, but the Forerunners and Precursors, if they are in Halo 4, need a MASSIVE amount of explaining to tell players who they are, where they have been, why they disappeared, and why they are back. This could either be summed up in five minutes or in three games. But whatever happens, i don’t think 343 should judge that many of their players have read the books, as that would completely bring them out of the loop. Not fair, really. This needs to be explained as if the entire halo fanbase didn’t know about these things. or else people will become too confused and they may not WANT to read any of the books.

So please, keep the books and games completely separate, and only bring them together after an IN DEPTH explanation.

You’re right in saying that quite a lot of explanation would need to take place in the games, in order to explain things that have already been explored in the novels. However I think it needs to be done to a degree, the Halo universe is one living organism, all of it’s parts are equal to me, including the games and fiction. Therefore all should be linked together, without bewildering new-comers, or people who don’t read the novels, but still enough that the readers can go “huh that’s cool, I recognise that from the novels”. With the game, the players will likely be discovering things along with the Chief, so it doesn’t seem like someone is handing you a textbook, it won’t feel like forced exposition in other words.
